Art Gallery: Tsum Tsum’s are Invading the Comic World!

It’s no secret that I adore Disney’s line of Tsum Tsum’s (here’s a post I wrote about while anticipating the first Star Wars collection, and one about my addiction to the app game) so when I heard that Marvel would be incorporating the incredibly adorable toys into some of their variant covers, I was beyond excited!  In addition to the covers, there’s going to be an in-continuity Tsum Tsum miniseries written by Jacob Chabot and illustrated by David Baldeon.  The story follows a crate of Tsum Tsum’s who think they’re actually the heroes they’ve been designed after who get lose in Brooklyn.  My absolute favorite of the variant covers has to be Chris Samnee’s Spider-Man cover but I also really love Joelle Jones’s Moon Girl and the Devil Dinosaur.  There are going to be 20 variants in all but below are my top 5! Although the Captain Marvel Tsum variant isn’t included below, it does make me wish that she’ll appear in a future collection!

1

Amazing Spider-Man #16 by Chris Samnee

2

Captain America: Steve Rogers #5 by Helen Chen

3

Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur #10 by Joelle Jones

4

Invincible Iron Man #12 by Brandon Peterson

13

The Mighty Thor #10 by Natacha Bustos

Wish List Worthy: Valentino x Spider-Man Purse + Reading Recommendation

I can honestly say that I never thought I would live in a world where I would find the Spider-Man purse of my dreams and then not be able to afford it.  Not to mention, it’s a Spider-Man purse being released by high fashion designer VALENTINO.  Ladies and gentlemen, that is not a typo.  Neiman Marcus describes this exclusive design as an abstract Spider-Man motif.  This leather purse is crafted in Italy and officially licensed by Marvel Comics.  If you happen to have an extra $4,595.00 laying around you can pre-order this beautiful accessory here (and I will be forever jealous of you).  I feel like this purse pairs perfectly with one of my favorite limited series of Spider-Man comics entitled Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane which is written by Sean McKeever and illustrated by Takeshi Miyazawa.  You may be thinking, really (since I am very vocally Team Gwen)? But this series is very Gwen Stacy heavy and the artwork is delightful so yes, it will forever be a favorite of mine!

5 Fandom Friday: Couple’s Costumes I Want to Force My Significant Other to Wear For Halloween

We did this topic last year for 5 Fandom Friday as well but it’s such a fun one to include because people are always discovering new characters and fandoms so everyone on your list from last year might not make it this year.  This year I decided to shake things up and post 5 couple’s costumes that I want to dress up as with Andrew at some point in the future.  We don’t have anything big planned for this Halloween (besides the aforementioned pie-baking, Halloween-candy-eating and scary-movie-watching) so Andrew and I will be saving our costumes for Kelly & Erika’s annual after-Halloween Halloween party.  I’m not going to reveal our plan just yet but here are some characters I want us to dress up as in the future!

1 2

1) Bilbo & Gandalf – Andrew already has the height going for him to be Gandalf and since Gandalf is my favorite character I would love to see Andrew dressed up as him.  Also, being Bilbo will give me an excuse to eat a million meals in a day and walk around barefoot.

1

2) Rapunzel & Flynn – This is one of my favorite Disney films and Rapunzel and Flynn are the characters in the Disney World that most closely resemble us.  We have something planned involving Tangled but I’m not allowed to say what it is just yet :-)

1

3) Jack & Sally – I toyed with the idea of dressing as these characters this year but we ultimately went with something else.  I would rather save a classic like Jack and Sally for when we have something huge planned!

1

4) Harry Potter & Luna Lovegood – I can’t think of any reason why I wouldn’t want to do a couples Harry Potter cosplay. Luna is my favorite character and I chose Harry for Andrew since he’s so easily identifiable but I would be open to letting him choose a different character.

1

5) Spider-Man & Spider-Gwen – We actually have each other listed in our phones as Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy.  I love both of these characters and now that Gwen is webslinging in an alt universe I think it would be incredible to pair her up with Spidey in our universe.

5 Fandom Friday: Fandom Deaths I’m Still Upset About {SPOILERS}

This week’s 5 Fandom Friday is a tough topic to write about for two reasons.  The first is emotionally because guhhh fandom deaths when you’re really attached to a character are seriously difficult to cope with and the second reason is because I feel bad and I don’t want to spoil anything for anyone else! Especially if they haven’t seen something or they’re currently in the middle of watching / reading whichever thing I mention.  So be warned, there are spoilers ahead for Doctor Who, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Harry Potter, The Lion King (hopefully everyone has seen this one!) and The Avengers.

1

1. Amy & Rory Pond – I was a total bawling mess during Amy and Rory’s final episode of Doctor Who which took place in NYC and probably added even more to my sadness.  The show has not been the same without them and I still haven’t warmed up to Clara :-/

1

2. Gwen Stacey –  This is my number one saddest comic and movie death.  I love Gwen Stacey so much and I have always wished that Peter Parker would’ve gotten to explore a future with Gwen instead of Mary Jane.  While I have grown to like MJ a bit more, I still don’t love her relationship with Peter.

1

3. Sirius Black – This KILLED me as a child.  I remember feeling so happy that Harry was finally going to have a live-in father figure in his life.  Someone who would love and care about him as if he were his own son and be able to share memories of his parents and then it was all taken away so quickly.  I can’t imagine that and it just crushed my heart into a million little pieces.

1

4. Mufasa –   Another death that really had kid Kristin crying her eyes out.  Not only did Simba have his father taken away from him by his crazy evil uncle, but he had to watch the moment that it happened and even worse, he was a cub who was completely incapable of helping or trying to save him from falling off the cliff.  I can’t even imagine how I would fare if I tried to watch this film again now.

1

5. Agent Coulson – I know this death didn’t stick but at the time it was a lot to handle!  I haven’t kept up with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. despite loving Clark Gregg so I’m not privy to the reason that he’s still alive in the MCU.  I couldn’t even look at Captain America for a while without seeing those bloody trading cards *insert crying emoji*

Which fandom deaths affected you the most?  And again, I am SUPER sorry if I’ve spoiled anything for anyone!

5 Fandom Friday: Favorite Theme Park Rides

Writing this post has caused me to start thinking about the next time I’ll be able to hop on a plane to Florida to visit Kristin and go to Disney and Harry Potter World<3  We always have so much fun when we’re together and I think a visit is long overdue!

1

1) Hogwarts Castle Ride @ Universal – Just being in Harry Potter world is a big enough treat, but going on the Hogwarts Castle ride and seeing Hogwarts in such great detail is an absolute dream come true!  The only part I don’t love is the spiders!

2) Star Tours @ Disney World – This is my favorite of any theme park ride and anytime I’m at Disney, I beeline for Star Tours.  I love feeling like I’m actually in space.  I haven’t ever been lucky enough to be the rebel yet, but I’m hopeful that it’ll happen one day!

3) Indiana Jones ride @ Disneyland – I wish this ride was also at Disney World because Florida is way more convenient to get to than California.

4) Peter Pan’s Flight @ Disney – While Disney’s Peter Pan is my least favorite interpretation of J.M Barrie’s play, I do really love the ride!  It’s so exciting to see all the characters and be taken through Neverland.

5) Spider-Man ride @ Universal – I love all the easter eggs in this ride!  Even when you’re just waiting on the line, you pass by Ben Ulrich’s office among others.  I tend to prefer simulated rides because I’m a big baby when it comes to roller coasters not even because of the speed and drops but because I just imagine how bad it could be if the ride breaks.  Which actually happened on this ride and I was terrified while Kristin just laughed at me and talked about how the ride was actually exciting for once.  She’s quite the daredevil.

Art Gallery: Spider-Kristin By Pr1ps

Last night when I logged into instagram I was met with a wonderful surprise!  One of my favorite artists, pr1ps,  drew a sketch of me and I love it to pieces!  She drew me in a Spider-Man tank top and I’m accessorized with Sailor Moon earrings and a pearl necklace.  It’s just so perfect<3  I immediately updated numerous social media icons of mine because I’m so excited / flattered!

Wish List Wednesday: Sideshow Collectibles Black Cat Statue

At long last, Sideshow Collectibles is adding Black Cat to their J. Scott Campbell Spider-Man line of statues.  I immediately fell in love with the statue when Sideshow revealed the gorgeous design.  The base of the statue is pink and covered in diamonds.  What more could a girl ask for?!  Plus there’s an adorable white cat sitting at Felicia’s leg and winking at us!  Felicia’s face and body are exquisitely designed and I love her black boots.  She’s also leaning on a ball of yarn fashioned after Spider-Man’s head.  It’s just so perfect in so many ways<3  She’s available to preorder now from Sideshow!

5 Fandom Friday: Fictional Couples I Ship

5 Fandom Friday is getting into the Valentine’s Day spirit!  Our topic this week is about which fictional couples we ship.  Anyone who identifies as a fangirl or a fanboy has VERY strong opinions about which characters belong together.  Here are the ones that I feel most strongly about!

1

1) Peter Parker & Gwen Stacy (Spider-Man) – Gwen > MJ.  No question.  Gwen loves Peter and MJ loves Spidey.  Gwen and Peter connect on a deeper level and I wish that they would’ve been able to explore their relationship further.  Stupid Green Goblin *cries*

1

2) Cath & Levi (Fangirl) – This pair is adorable.  Levi gets Cath to be open to new experiences and it’s the best thing for her.  Their love is so innocent and ahhh.

1

3) Anna & Etienne St. Clair (Anna and the French Kiss) – I just wrote a full review of this book which will be posted this weekend and it explains ALL of my feelings about Anna at Etienne but trust me, this pair will make you swoon.  It’s a slow burn romance and it’s so so satisfying.

1

4)  Lupin & Tonks (Harry Potter) – The FEELS.

2

5) Chuck & Blair (Gossip Girl) – Chuck and Blair’s relationship was such an emotional roller coaster for me.  I had read the books so at first I thought that the idea of something between them was absurd, but Leighton Meester and Ed Westwick (*swoon*) have the best on screen chemistry possibly ever.  I think they may be my OTP.

My Awesome Recent Times On The Interwebz

It’s no secret that I love the internet.  I mean, how could you not?  I love just about everything about it (minus trolls but I’m keeping this post positive)!  In the past few weeks I’ve received some recognition on several of the websites I love to pieces and visit each day so I thought it would be fun to compile a quick list and share them all with you!  I really appreciate when the people who inspire me recognize me back so this blog post is like my little mini thank you gush to those who made my last few weeks a little brighter!

The moment I became privy to the Bombshell Zatanna statue that DC Collectibles announced I was absolutely elated and overcome with joy.  I’ve been (im)patiently waiting for her announcement since I felt she was snubbed and the Stargirl announcement was made.  I immediately tweeted a photo of her and somehow the internet gods alerted the official DC Comics account to my tweet and they not only RT’ed my 140 character excited sentiment, but they also started following me!  It may seem like a dumb thing to be happy about but 1) I love and respect DC Comics so much so it means a lot to me, and 2) it’s the little things that make me happy!

Next up, which I mentioned in my Winter Catch Up post, Comics Alliance started a really cool column called “The Comics Alliance Collection: Cool Stuff We (And You) Got This Week.”  This directly appeals to the obsessive collector (hoarder) in me because I love mindlessly scrolling through photos and viewing things that other people have collected.  My lovely Poison Ivy Tonner Doll which I acquired at my local comic book store  made the cut for their March 2nd post.  If you want your cool stuff to be featured on Comics Alliance too, you can hashtag your Instagram photos with #cacollection and their fine editors will compile their favorites for future posts. Happy hoarding!

Then two of Kristin & I’s blog posts for On Wednesdays We Wear Pink were posted and linked back to by The Mary Sue (which my awesome geek girl friend Jill Pantozzi happens to be an Associate Editor for)!  We wrote about a new Divergent makeup line that Sephora is debuting early this month, and the design poll that DC Comics was holding in order for collectors to offer input for the DC Bombshell Mera statue.  (I seriously cannot get enough of these Bombshells.  Now I’m just waiting for Catwoman!)  We were linked back on their “Things We Saw Today” posts on February 25th and March 3rd.

Lastly, my friend Betty alerted me to the existence of these Spider-Man leggings because obviously Wet Seal’s designers created them with me in mind.  I couldn’t stand the thought of ordering them online and then spending countless days (like 5-8) waiting for my shipment to arrive so I scheduled an emergency trip to the mall where I happily acquired the last small pair.  Then today while I was doing my daily blog read of my favorite sites I saw that my friend Amy had posted about my new leggings on Fashionably Geek and linked to my Instagram account! Hooray for infusing superheroes into style!

Winter Catch Up Post

I haven’t written any personal updates recently about what I’ve been up to and since I have some extra time I thought it would be fun to catch you up on what’s been going on (mostly through photos because how else would I remember the last few months?) from Christmas to present.  I’m finally back to writing consistently for On Wednesdays We Wear Pink with my BFF other Kristin. I really missed the excitement of finding stories and sharing them with all of our readers.  Now that I’m back to writing I feel totally refreshed and re-motivated about working on our little blog baby.  I spent the winter getting my life back in order after Fangasm ended and spending all of my time with the people who matter most to me, namely my soulmate BFF, Melissa and my favorite little fiery redhead Cassie.  I wouldn’t trade my Fangasm experience for anything, but I would lying if I didn’t say that I’m kind of ecstatic it’s finally over (despite missing Molly like crazy).  Anyway, here’s what I’ve been doing:

CHRISTMAS (obviously the largest collection of photos)!

IMG_1020 IMG_1072IMG_0140IMG_0851IMG_1041IMG_0554 IMG_0568 IMG_0577 IMG_0695IMG_0745 IMG_0764 IMG_0823 IMG_0883 IMG_0886 IMG_0887IMG_1028 IMG_1075 IMG_1083 IMG_1087IMG_1673

I spent December doing the things I always do which include visiting the Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center twice a week or more, drinking as many gingerbread lattes I can possibly consume without getting sick from the traditional red holiday cups at Starbucks, and dressing as festively as my wardrobe allows.  I saw Neil Gaiman perform Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol at the New York Public Library with my brother Bob and friend Rachael, drank the most delicious white hot chocolate topped with gingerbread spice at Rue 57 with my friend Leo, admired the stars hanging from the ceiling in the Columbus Circle mall, ate my cousin Samantha’s delicious sugar cookies, saw a gingerbread version of the Flatiron building at Citarella, traded presents with my besties, and of course, opened the presents under my own tree on Christmas morning from Santa!

IMG_1001IMG_0266IMG_1180IMG_0982IMG_1771IMG_0448IMG_0738

My love for Disney’s Frozen intensified.  I loved the film so much and I’ve been (im)patiently waiting for March 18th to roll around so I can start watching the blu-ray on loop in my room.  I might’ve sang ‘Let it Go’ about a million times in my room/shower/car, etc.  In glancing through my Instagram photos I also noticed that Frozen subconsciously began influencing my fashion and food decisions.  Many trips to the Disney store in Times Square were made.

IMG_0707 IMG_0716 IMG_0721

One of the most exciting things I did this winter was attend the New York City premiere of American Hustle at the Ziegfeld Theater.  I have fond memories of the Ziegfeld seeing as my first experience there was to help with the Star Wars fashion show.  As soon as Leo and I arrived at the theater we walked right past Christian Bale and Jeremy Renner, who just so happen to play some of my favorite superheroes.  The director David O. Russell gave us a speech before we watched the film and introduced the cast.  Unfortunately, Jennifer Lawrence wasn’t in attendance because she had Hunger Games obligations so I guess that’s excusable or whatever.  After the film we grabbed a cab to Cipriani and spent the night enjoying the 70’s decor and talking to some of the cast.  I might’ve had a major fangirl moment when Jeremy Renner put his arm around my waist.  Also in attendance were Louis C.K., Bradley Cooper, and Amy Adams.

IMG_1313IMG_1651IMG_0888IMG_1054 IMG_1416 IMG_1560 IMG_1602IMG_0913 IMG_1300 IMG_1661 IMG_1708IMG_0469 IMG_0775 IMG_0910IMG_0203

2013-2014 has been one giant snowpocalypse of a winter season.  I always read a lot but with the 57+ inches of snow we’ve received this winter, I’ve spent much of my time inside hibernating and reading.  Some of my favorite things I’ve read recently are 1) Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell which touched upon my Harry Potter addiction and  told the most endearing story about a fanfiction writer, 2) The Unbound by Victoria Schwab which is the sequel to The Archived and tells the story of Mackenzie Bishop, a keeper of Histories (dead people),  and her relationship with my literary crush Guyliner (Wes), and how she’s dealing with the aftermath of her traumatic experience in the first book, 3) Gotham Central and Daredevil which both fall under my read-all-the-Ed-Brubaker-things kick, 4) The Diviners by Libba Bray which is a supernatural story about a rebellious young girl named Evie O’Neill who moves in with her uncle in NYC during the roaring 20’s and works with him to uncover a serial killer which gave me nightmares, and 5) the last few issues of Young Avengers by Kieron Gillan and Jamie McKelvie which made me want to sob uncontrollably because I was not ready for the series to end.  I also FINALLY acquired the new Harry Potter paperback books with the redesigned covers by Kazu Kibuishi which I’ve basically been coveting and visiting in bookstores since they’re been released.  I feel a re-read coming on.

IMG_1140IMG_0119

I had a very low key New Years Eve this year and it was absolutely wonderful.  I rang in 2014 with Melissa and my brother.  We drank pink champagne and watched the Akira blu-ray I recently purchased.  I couldn’t think of a better way to have spent the holiday.

IMG_1126 IMG_1232 IMG_1534 IMG_1836 IMG_2181

I’ve been eating and baking a lot of junk food lately so I’ll have to revert back to my rabbit food like vegetarian diet soon if I plan on fitting in my dresses for the summer.  Cookie dough Oreos may be the greatest thing I’ve ever tasted.  They have a faintly coffee like taste but you can feel the sugar particles in your mouth while you’re devouring them.  Macarons have kind of been my jam this winter.  I especially love Macaron Parlour in St. Marks which has really creative flavors like Cheetos and Candied Bacon with Maple Cream Cheese. Yeah.  I’m also really impressed with the Carrot Cake M&M’s.  They’re no Pumpkin Spice, but they really hit the spot.IMG_0117 IMG_0230 IMG_0425 IMG_0894 IMG_0900 IMG_1277 IMG_1366 IMG_1481 IMG_1598 IMG_2158IMG_2126 IMG_2173IMG_1870

Being a hoarder, I’ve added a bunch of new statues, dolls, clothes, etc., to my collection over the past few months.  The biggest item I’ve added is the life size Daredevil bust by Sideshow Collectibles which I’ve been told freaks some people out but they’ll just have to get over it because it’s my room, my second favorite Marvel hero and he makes me happy.  I’ve also been collecting the DC Bombshell statues which combine my love of superheroes with my love of retro pinup style models.  Unfortunately my Supergirl broke into six pieces after falling two feet onto a carpeted surface (I shudder to think what would’ve happened on a tiled or wood floor), but my Dad superglued her together for me and she’s almost as good as new.  Sideshow Collectibles also sent me the Mary Jane Watson statue which is the first statue released in their J. Scott Campbell Spider-Man collection and I wrote a rave review of her for both of my websites.  Lastly, I’ve been getting into DC Tonner dolls.  My most recent addition is Poison Ivy and my instagram photo of her is featured on Comics Alliance this week!  I also received my first Sailor Moon preorder from Japan so I’m expecting a flood of new magical girl things in the next few months.  Seriously though, I just love these compacts.  And the newest anything I’ve gotten is the Target exclusive edition of Thor: The Dark World.  Obviously it was worth the trip alone to have my lovely Loki on the cover.

IMG_0744IMG_2100

I recently saw Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark on Broadway (right before it closed) with Dan, Marlene and Ali.  It was incredibly silly and we all laughed throughout many of the scenes.  I had been the only one who hadn’t seen the show yet, and I’m SO thankful Dan thought of me when he got some last minute tickets.  Some of the villains had awesome costumes while others were absurd.  I was a little bit nervous when Spider-Man and the Green Goblin would fly above our heads after many actor injuries earlier in the show’s run.  I also saw Cinderella on Broadway with Leo which I totally loved to pieces!  Cinderella was played by Carlie Rae Jeppson (who I hadn’t known sang ‘Call Me Maybe’ until my mother informed me >.<)  They took some liberties from the original fairy tale but it worked for the play and I still find myself humming the songs from time to time.  The evil step mother was played by Fran Drescher who was perfect for the role.  One of her best lines was “I married for love, he died, I cried.  I married for money, he died, I got a house.”

IMG_1496 IMG_1530 IMG_1840 IMG_1915 IMG_1922 IMG_1924 IMG_1926

For the second year in a row I celebrated Galentine’s Day with Melissa.  As per tradition I re-read Mad Love by Paul Dini while I waited for Melissa’s train to bring her to me. We spent the night drinking lots of wine, eating lots of pizza, shopping for books, and having a Twitter battle over who our biggest celebrity crushes are, mine being Michael Cera.  You may think the top photo of Paolo Rivera sketches are of Melissa and I and shockingly they’re supposed to be the Baroness and Gwen Stacy but just compare our likeness!  We must’ve been used as references.

IMG_1964 IMG_1988 IMG_2028 IMG_2056 IMG_2059 IMG_2060 IMG_2061 IMG_2072 IMG_2075 IMG_2131 IMG_2152

A few weeks ago, Melissa and I braved the snow and polar vortexes and went to Toy Fair where I MET GRUMPY CAT.  Grumpy Cat is tiny, fluffy, adorable, and definitely heavily sedated since she sat in one spot for a few hours.  We also met Emmet from the LEGO Movie and everything was awesome.  I fell in love with all of the DC Collectibles, especially the Li’l Gotham figures, Pajama Party Harley Quinn, and Bombshell Zatanna.  I also loved everything by Funko, from Marvel blind boxes, to a Harley Quinn plush to their new line of Ha Batman and TNMT soft vinyls.  Kidrobot finally acquired a DC Comics license so I’m also super psyched for that Joker Labbit.  I wrote about Toy Fair extensively for On Wednesdays We Wear Pink.

IMG_1247 IMG_1794 IMG_1826 IMG_2101 IMG_2104 IMG_2185

Next is a collection of friend photos.  I played Cards Against Humanity with my high school friends during a mini reunion one night (I was so happy to have gotten the Batman card).  I co-hosted an event at Midtown Comics for my friend Eric Smith’s book The Geeks Guide to Dating.  We had such a fun time and afterwards we headed to the Red Door with Cassie, Taylor, and Katherine for after book club drinks and chit chat.  The gold photo is of Melissa and I drinking cider at Piano’s where we saw Giovanni’s band perform.  I also took a day off of work and spent the day shopping and drinking extra large green apple cocktails with Betty, Angelina, Lauren, and Nick.  And most recently, I tried on my bridesmaid dress for my friend Amanda’s upcoming wedding in November.

IMG_2111

Last and most certainly not least, I impulsively booked a trip to Orlando to see the aforementioned Kristin and my friend Christine.  I’m SO SO SO excited to leave for Harry Potter World and Disney and MegaCon in a few weeks and it seems like a bunch of my other friends will also be in town during the same time!  I’m going to try not to let as much time pass between posts so I won’t have to write a three month catch up again any time soon.  I hope you’ve all been well and I really hope that Spring weather starts happening soon so my upcoming adventures are warmer.
