Outfit of the Day: Spider-Gwen

These are some photos that I took (and edited) last fall but I still hadn’t posted for some reason unbeknownst to me (actually now that I’m thinking of it, I took these photos the day of Melissa’s going away party when she moved back to Texas T.T).  Since my second tpb of Spider-Gwen arrived yesterday I thought I would get on releasing these<3 I think everyone knows that Spider-Gwen is essentially my comic dream come true (thanks again Dan!) so I’ve purchased just about every Spider-Gwen article of clothing that WeLoveFine has had to offer.  Even more exciting is that completely out of nowhere, my friend Eric asked for my address because he had a surprise for me… custom painted Spider-Gwen converse sneakers!!!!  I was DYING when he sent me photos of them and I couldn’t believe how lucky I was that he thought of me!  Each side of the shoes has a different design and I love them so much! To be honest, I’m super scared to wear them unless it’s a REALLY special occasion because I would be DEVASTATED if anything were to happen to them! I love that Eric even went so far as to customize the box!  I decided to put together this everyday outfit complete with a Gwen Stacy headband and show off my best web hands.  In other news, today is my first official day off for my wedding! I have some last minute appointments today and some crafting stuff to take care of and then I’ll be rewarding myself with a hot cup of tea while I savor every page of DC Rebirth!

Spider-Gwen Bishoujo Statue

I’ve always been a collector of the Kotobukiya Bishoujo statues but I always stuck with DC styles and hadn’t ventured into Marvel (with the exception of Scarlet Witch) but all of that is about to change.  My favorite non-hero comic book character, Gwen Stacy, was reimagined last year and given an alter-ego of her own.  Spider-Gwen was born out of the Spider-Verse storyline and my heart still melts every time I see her swinging through the pages of her very own ongoing title.  Now Kotobukiya is immortalizing her in statue form as part of their Bishoujo line.  Spider-Gwen is almost 9 inches tall and she comes with two head scultps so you can display her with or without her cowl.  Spider-Gwen will be released in October of 2016 and she can be preordered on Entertainment Earth for $74.99.

5 Fandom Friday: Couple’s Costumes I Want to Force My Significant Other to Wear For Halloween

We did this topic last year for 5 Fandom Friday as well but it’s such a fun one to include because people are always discovering new characters and fandoms so everyone on your list from last year might not make it this year.  This year I decided to shake things up and post 5 couple’s costumes that I want to dress up as with Andrew at some point in the future.  We don’t have anything big planned for this Halloween (besides the aforementioned pie-baking, Halloween-candy-eating and scary-movie-watching) so Andrew and I will be saving our costumes for Kelly & Erika’s annual after-Halloween Halloween party.  I’m not going to reveal our plan just yet but here are some characters I want us to dress up as in the future!

1 2

1) Bilbo & Gandalf – Andrew already has the height going for him to be Gandalf and since Gandalf is my favorite character I would love to see Andrew dressed up as him.  Also, being Bilbo will give me an excuse to eat a million meals in a day and walk around barefoot.

1

2) Rapunzel & Flynn – This is one of my favorite Disney films and Rapunzel and Flynn are the characters in the Disney World that most closely resemble us.  We have something planned involving Tangled but I’m not allowed to say what it is just yet :-)

1

3) Jack & Sally – I toyed with the idea of dressing as these characters this year but we ultimately went with something else.  I would rather save a classic like Jack and Sally for when we have something huge planned!

1

4) Harry Potter & Luna Lovegood – I can’t think of any reason why I wouldn’t want to do a couples Harry Potter cosplay. Luna is my favorite character and I chose Harry for Andrew since he’s so easily identifiable but I would be open to letting him choose a different character.

1

5) Spider-Man & Spider-Gwen – We actually have each other listed in our phones as Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy.  I love both of these characters and now that Gwen is webslinging in an alt universe I think it would be incredible to pair her up with Spidey in our universe.

Life Lately: Reading, Watching, Playing, Anticipating

Last weekend I sustained a neck injury which I am henceforth referring to as book neck.  Everyone I’ve told about it unanimously agrees that I should come up with another story.  I was traveling on the subway and carrying too many bags which forced me to hold my book arms-length from my face at a downward angle.  When I woke up on Sunday, I couldn’t move my neck.  I was Batman-ing to talk to people the entire day.  On the brightside, I was able to film 5 BookTube videos before my ailment and I discovered that if I drink a glass of wine my neck feels much better.  (This also led to me forgetting that I ordered a Funko Smaug and being really excited when I received an email about it having shipped!)  Oh! I also got to wear my new unicorn shoes because it was finally warm enough!

I’ve been re-reading my true book love, Harry Potter, and it’s made morning and evening commutes so much fun<3  There are so many extra details that I’m picking up now that I’m an adult and I get these intense pangs of emotion when certain characters appear.  Some of my random thoughts have been 1) Hermione is such an amazing character and Harry and Ron are so lucky they ended up being friends, 2) the majority of the most meaningful quotes in the first book are said by Dumbledore and 3) why isn’t real life like Hogwarts?

My subconscious is truly ready for the Daredevil premiere on April 10th.  Last night I had a dream that I was in a desolate subway station in NYC when I became cornered by the Kingpin.  He was walking towards me and I had no idea what I was going to do when all of a sudden, across the platform, I see that bright red costume and billy club I love so much appear seemingly out of nowhere.  Instead of keeping my cool in front of the Kingpin, I couldn’t help but exclaim “YES!” completely blowing up Daredevil’s spot.  Luckily, he kicked the Fisk’s butt anyway :-)

Andrew and I went to Sugar & Plumm for brunch (I wrote about how fantastic this restaurant is last week!) and after eating too many sweets, we took a stroll through Central Park.  We visited the Bethesda fountain, saw some mallard ducks swimming in the only area of the water that wasn’t completely frozen, and we exited near the John Lennon Imagine area.  It was really lovely.  We’ve also been utilizing Andrew’s Wii U which has been a blast.  I was incredibly excited for Mario Party 10 because Mario Party is probably my favorite N64 game, but I was sadly disappointed when we realized the game format changed and you barely get to play any mini-games… which is the whole point!  So we switched back to Super Smash Bros. and we’ve unlocked all the characters!  My favorite characters to play as are Rosalina and Bowser.  Oh, and we’ve totally been marathoning The Mindy Project.  I’m not too into the plot but it’s such a strange show and I love so many of the characters.  Danny is my favorite but I also love Mindy and Morgan.  Plus, Mindy’s clothes are super cute!  And lastly, I read an awesome graphic novel about MMORPG’s!

NYCC 2014: Art I Purchased Spotlight On Babs Tarr

Since the day my press pass for NYCC arrived, I began scouring the official website to see which artists and exhibitors I couldn’t leave the convention without seeing.  To say that my enthusiasm level was anything less than the max when I came across Babs Tarr’s name, would be a gross understatement.  I’ve been following Babs art for ages before she was announced as the new artist on Batgirl but we have never been at the same convention and her Etsy shop is (sadly) forever closed.  I knew Babs’ table would be the one where I spent the majority of my convention budget and I couldn’t wait to hand over my credit card.

As soon as we got to NYCC on Thursday, Andrew and I went to straight to Artist Alley and I basically beelined for Babs’ table.  Unfortunately she was busy speaking on a panel so I decided to wait until she was there to take the plunge.  After visiting other artist friends and hanging at their tables which just so happened to be in close proximity to Babs’, she returned.  I may have even gotten a text message from Jen simply stating “the eagle has landed.”

I rushed back and excitedly pointed at all of the things I needed!  Babs was SO nice and I told her about how I had wanted her Harley and Ivy heart print forever but since her Etsy is always closed I’ve yet to acquire it which is when she explained that she hates shipping things.  Totally understandable!  Anyway, I ended up with 5 pieces in total and I’m so happy I picked them up when I did.  As the con went on her selection dwindled because obviously.  I just love the way Babs draws female heroes and villains and my favorite print I picked up from her was a Spider-Gwen.

I think part of the reason I’m so attracted to Babs Tarr’s art is because she pays such close attention to fashion.  I would wear the majority of the clothing the women she illustrates are depicted in.  I’m really really hoping that Babs will design a poster for The Mary Janes since she already took the time to draw Spider-Gwen.  Anyway, the below prints were a portion of my NYCC art haul:

5 Fandom Friday: Characters I Would Love To Dress Up As For Halloween

Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays (next to Christmas of course)!  It’s a time to indulge in delicious candy, catch up on horror movies you may have missed or revisit some old favorites, carve pumpkins and hunt for every pumpkin flavored food item one can find, and of course, to dress up!  For me, I personally think there’s a huge difference between dressing up for Halloween and cosplaying.  While I obviously want to be as character accurate as possible, I definitely put a lot less effort into Halloween costumes than I put into cosplay.  Especially since Halloween is not too long after New York Comic Con.  Our next 5 Fandom Friday post is about the 5 characters I would love to dress up for this Halloween and I’m treating my list as if I had unlimited time and resources.
Screen Shot 2014-09-25 at 7.48.24 AM
1) Elsa – I love Elsa for so many reasons.  I was already obsessed with Frozen before the film had even debuted because I would spend all of my free time wandering into the Disney Store in Times Square and admiring her ethereal ice blue gown accentuated with the perfect amount of sparkly crystals.  It was basically a test not to buy something each time I would get there without having seen the movie.  I only allowed myself to purchase an Elsa mug beforehand but you can bet that as soon as I saw it (opening night OBVS), I headed straight back to get my hands on more merchandise.  I also adore Elsa’s long full braid and her classic purple eyeshadow and deep red lips and porcelain skin.  So yupp, HUGE Elsa fan here :-)
 frozen-elsa-wallpaper-1-desktop-what-happened-when-these-kids-mistook-daenerys-for-elsa-from-frozen
2) Spider-Gwen – Let’s face it.  Spider-Gwen is basically all of my fantasies rolled into one giant dream come true.  If there’s one character that was made for me, it’s Spider-Gwen.  I wish I had had enough time to put together a costume for New York Comic Con, but I’m so in love with Gwen that I didn’t want to rush at all.  I know I’m going to cosplay her at a convention next year, but there is going to be so much time, effort and care that goes into it because it’s one cosplay that I’m excited to wear multiple times.  I love Gwen’s Spider suit and the gorgeous hooded design.  It’s so sleek and classic, yet also modern and fresh. Oh Gwen <3
 edge-of-spider-verse-1--100339
3) Thranduil – One fandom that I am very passionate about but haven’t ever gotten into the cosplay spirit of is Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.  After seeing GlitzyGeekyGirl’s Legolas cosplay, I’ve been dying to make my own, but ever since The Hobbit films have been released, I find myself more and more attached to Thranduil.  I love his long blonde hair (widows peak and all), and I super love his hair accessory/crown.  The delicate silver branchlike design works perfectly with the autumnal leaves.  I also love his floor length silver brocade(?) robe, knee high riding boots, and leggings.  Also, elf ears.  It’s going to happen at some point.
 Thranduil_design_3
4) The New Batgirl –  Another new costume that I’ve been experiencing intensely fond feelings for is the new Batgirl suit which debuted in issue #35 earlier this month.  The new Babs has been everywhere on the internet and I could just stare at her outfit for hours.  I love love love the fitted purple leather jacket, purple leggings, yellow Doc Martens, yellow Bat symbol and just all of the intricate detailing of the various snaps and zippers and what have you.  Batgirl is finally someone who is relatable and her costume could not be more perfect.
 du2dc0cjd0kbjaiberdb
5) Sylveon –   Sylveon is my favorite new Pokémon.  She/he’s what I would picture a Pokémon fashioned after a cupcake to look like.  There are such cute girl Sylveon designs on DeviantArt and I would definitely want to model my costume after this Sylveon Scout or a Lolita Sylveon.  Either way the costume would be so pink and precious and full of bows!  I’m pretty sure I would also be rather prancy.

Comics, Desserts, Hobbits & Cartoons

I’ve been itching to get into a better blogging routine for posting more on SuperSpaceChick since it’s my personal site and I have some of the most fun writing things here than I do any other place.  I’ve already been plotting some really exciting things with The Nerdy Girlie and I cannot wait to debut our new idea to all our blogger friends out there on the interwebz!  I’m sure we’ll even make some new ones in the process :-D  But, since this has been one whirlwind of an eventful week, I thought I’d share all of the wonderful things that’ve been happening in my first foray back into blogging!

It’s been a very slow moving process for me to bring all of my beloved collectibles, books, comics, and other assorted treasures to my new home.  I moved into an apartment in Brooklyn in May with my good friend Taylor and my new friend Emma.  Since then, it’s been weekend after weekend of my wonderfully supportive family and boyfriend Andrew driving from my old Long Island home to my new place and carrying heavy bag after heavy bag of graphic novels, shoes, statues, video games, books, and more up several flights of stairs and into my bright pink room.  In the last batch of packed items I hauled some of my favorite comfort graphic novels since I had previously tried to fill my shelves with things I have yet to read.  Since I have less space here it’s been quite a project to prioritize and determine which things I want to have here and which collectibles should be displayed.  One of my creative ways to display more toys was to prop my TV set up on several art books so I could place my Star Wars themed Disney Vinylmations in front of the set without blocking the picture.  It’s kind of funny to think that I’ve been trying to de-clutter my online life (another project this week was to unfriend anyone on Facebook that isn’t a close personal friend, a family member, or someone I communicate with regularly online), while trying to maximize the clutter in my real life.

IMG_9238While I’m on the subject of comics, SPIDER-GWEN came out last week and it was literally one of the best moments of my life.  It’s part of the Spider-Verse story arc and it takes place in an alternate dimension where Gwen Stacy was bitten by a spider and becomes Spider-Woman.  Even more exciting than this is that Gwen is awesome.  She’s the drummer in a band called The Mary Janes with Mary Jane Watson as the lead vocalist.  Their hit song is fittingly titled Face It Tiger and there’s already a band that recorded their interpretation of the song!  It has a punk feel which totally fits the story.  I love the father/daughter dynamic of the story between Gwen and Captain Stacy and I really really really hope Marvel sees all of the positive feedback they’ve been getting and the pleading so many of us have done online for a Spider-Gwen ongoing series.  Gwen has always been my favorite Marvel lady for Peter Parker.  They’re my OTP.  To see Gwen in this one issue (and ASM #9) is a dream come true.  The variant cover even looks exactly like yours truly!

photoLately I’ve been on a major Disney kick.  I think it all began when I saw that Disney came out with a second wave of their beautiful fairytale collection mugs.  I have the Tangled mug from the first collection which I purchased after admiring Megan’s.  I remember how quickly they sold out of stores so a few hours after my discovery I speed walked over to the Disney Store in Times Square on my lunch break and I picked up the Aurora mug.  I also bought my first Tsum Tsum, Minnie, and she is just precious.  Shortly after that, Betty told me about the Tsum Tsum game that I could play on my iPhone, and let’s just say that Andrew has mentioned the word intervention more than once since I made my account.  It’s a really fast paced 60 second game where you have to connect as many of the same Tsum Tsum’s as possible.  The more points and coins you accrue, the more Tsum Tsum’s you can purchase and the higher level you’ll achieve.  It’s also fun because several of my other friends play too and we send each other hearts every chance we get!  Then on Saturday night Andrew agreed to have a Disney movie marathon with me.  We decided to watch The Little Mermaid, my personal favorite, and Frozen, my second favorite.  The marathon also included Ben & Jerry’s Peanut Butter Core Ice Cream which is just heavenly and brings us to the dessert and food portion of my post.  (Sleeping Beauty is coming out on blu-ray in October, so we’re going to fit that into our viewing schedule as soon as we get a copy too!)

It’s been big few weeks of desserts for me.  I’ve always had a sweet tooth and I’ve been trying my hardest to eat really healthy during the week for breakfast and lunch, that way I don’t feel as bad about indulging in some sugary sweets later on in the day.  The first photo, which may look like an ordinary Starbucks cup, is full of one of my seasonal favorites, the Pumpkin Spice latte.  I know it’s a thing that everyone makes fun of, and it’s even worse that I instagrammed it, but I love Pumpkin Spice everything and I’m not ashamed to admit it!  If it was offered throughout the year, I would buy even more of it than I do now, even though Andrew is convinced that I’m a victim of limited time marketing, but I’ll post more on that later.  We also found that Trader Joe’s, our go-to dinner source, made an ice cream version of Cookie Butter!  It’s vanilla ice cream with cookie butter inside and it’s just as delicious as it sounds.  The next photo are of some Battlestar Galactica cupcakes I baked a few weekends ago.  Andrew and I have been binge watching the series to the extreme and I felt inspired.  And when we’re not watching Starbuck, Adama, Helo, Apollo and the rest of the gang aboard Galactica, we’ve been having our regular weekend routine of Sunday pizza and video game day.  We’re currently in the middle of BioShock!  Andrew and I also stopped at my favorite cupcakery in NYC, Georgetown Cupcakes, to pick up a box to bring home and consume during tea time with my parents.  I love trying their monthly flavors and I’m really looking forward to when Gingerbread returns.  One of the most exciting things I’ve done this week is that I FINALLY tried a cronut.  And not just any cronut, a coffee creme filled cronut.  It was scrumptious!  I’ve never been a huge fan of donuts, however, I am a big advocator of croissants.  I also had a macaron brownie which is basically a macaron half dipped in chocolate and wedged in between a rich chocolate brownie.  All of this sugary goodness was eaten at Paris Baguette with Leonard and Andrew, where we also debated the number of times Gallifrey was shown on Doctor Who, discusses Peter Capaldi’s attack eyebrows, and complained relentlessly about how Clara needs to go.  Another new thing I tried is the Lazy Sunday ice cream from Ben & Jerry’s.  There are cupcakes bits inside it and I developed very strong feelings about it within the first few bites.  Lastly, a Smashburger was recently opened in NYC and since I used to love going there during lunch at my old job with my friends, I suggested that Andrew and I head there for dinner.  My favorite item on their menu is the Nutter Butter shake.  I also got an Avocado Ranch Black Bean Burger (vegetarian), and veggie fries which I like to think are healthier than regular french fries, but probably not.

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset

Since I started working at my new job, I am no longer allowed to dress casually.  This has meant that I’ve been purchasing and wearing an influx of geeky jewelry so I can still feel like myself from 9-5.  Some of my new favorites are this Groot necklace by Red Dingo Designs on Etsy and this Hobbit Hole necklace that was fashioned after Bag End.  I wore my Hobbit necklace most of last week because I am so excited for my future Lord of the Rings plans.  My wonderful boyfriend Andrew got tickets for us to see the full LOTR trilogy screened with a live orchestra at Lincoln Center next April.  The event takes place over three separate nights and I’m going to be decked out in all the Tolkien things every single performance.  Now the only question is how I’m going to be able to wait until next April!

Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset

Luckily I still have the weekend to exercise the fun part of my wardrobe!  I decided to wear my LSP skater dress by Black Milk on Saturday for my Grandma’s 75th surprise party.  I accessorized with my glittery LSP necklace, House of Harlow fringe earrings, a ton of bracelets, my Batman ring, and my favorite pair of Jeffrey Campbell wedge boots.  Oh my glob did I feel great!  I was almost as tall as Andrew!  Then this morning I was feeling very magical girl and I decided to wear my Pinkie Moon t-shirt from WeLoveFine.  It’s a mash up of Sailor Moon and My Little Pony which seemed appropriate since Andrew and I were going to a movie theater in Williamsburg to watch cartoons.  I accessorized with my Artemis ring and my Moon Stick necklace, both of which were purchased on Etsy.  You also get a sneak peek of my bookshelf in this photo!  I’m going to be doing a more in depth post about my new room once I feel like I have it decorated to my hearts desire.

IMG_9290 Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset

So, as I mentioned above, there’s a wonderful indie cinema in Brooklyn called NiteHawk Cinema.  They hold a monthly event called Spoons, Toons, and Booze and it’s one of the most fun events I’ve ever been too.  I’m definitely going to go back next month, and I’m crossing my fingers that it’ll be Halloween themed.  There’s an all you can eat cereal bar included in your ticket price.  I munched on Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Fruity Pebbles, Golden Grahams, Fruit Loops, and a peanut butter Jif cereal from Canada while Andrew’s cereals of choice included Cocoa Puffs and Oops All Berries.  There’s also a separate menu you can order from if you want other brunch foods, and there’s a menu of cocktails as well.  I had a black tea and lemon iced drink that was infused with vodka.  They also offer cereal shots, in which you mix a shot of Baileys or Kahlua with milk and Cinnamon Toast Crunch.  And the best part of the whole ordeal is that all of this food is served while you watch Saturday morning cartoons on a big screen.  There’s always a theme (this month’s was Rock and Roll), and the audience votes on which cartoons they watch.  In my session we viewed Garfield, Hey Arnold!, Rocko’s Modern Life, and Animaniacs. Afterwards, we walked along the Williamsburg Waterfront and admired the view of what we could see of the New York City skyline in the fog.  Then on our way back to my apartment we came across this beautiful graffiti!

PicFrame

And the last paragraph in this incredibly long post is dedicated to my favorite things I wrote this past week for On Wednesdays We Wear Pink.  We’ve been updating our site with 6-9 articles per day and I’m so proud of how much content we’ve been putting out but I’ve narrowed it down to my favorite posts.
