This past weekend my fiance showed me the most adorable artwork that appeals to me on every level. I immediately asked him to send me the link so I could post them here because heart eyes. Artist Maryam posted a series of portrait style illustrations of Disney Princesses if they were anime characters. The girls still look very much like themselves and their clothes haven’t changed but they’re flawless beauties with enlarged eyes and I could look at these forever. Mulan might be one of my favorites because I love the cherry blossom in her hair but I also really love Belle and Sleeping Beauty. Which one is your favorite?
Yesterday while surfing the internet I came across the cutest Disney Christmas artwork by Dylan Bonner and I knew I had to share them here! He took Disney characters and drew them in scenes of popular Christmas films which is basically my dream mash up. Of course Home Alone Rapunzel and Elf Ariel, and Polar Express Peter Pan are my three favorites!
This year, Saks Fifth Avenue’s windows completely exceeded my expectations. The outer windows are inspired by the 20’s, but it’s the main windows facing ‘The Tree’ (I feel like this deserves capitalization) in Rockefeller that really caught my attention. Each display is inspired by a fairytale! There are windows devoted to Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Rumpelstiltskin, Snow White, Little Red Riding Hood, and Rapunzel. My favorite is the Sleeping Beauty window because I am in love with her gorgeous pink dress, the tiny whimsical fairies sitting atop the vines and of course, the very made-up face in the moon. Swoon.
It’s challenging to take good photos since the windows reflect the buildings and people opposite them so I took a set at night and a set during the day (yes I waited in line twice and I will probably go back another few times!) but the day photos were better, so I hope you enjoy them. Merry Christmas!
Pinup Girl Clothing had been teasing us on instagram for months before finally adding their new fairy tale collection to their online shop. The collection includes pieces based on Snow White, The Little Mermaid, Sleeping Beauty and it also includes a beautiful generic Castle print. It is no surprise that my two favorite pieces display prints that were designed by Stephanie Buscema. After purchasing the Peter Pan dress earlier this year, I think it’s imperative that I build my collection of retro fairy tale items. I mean, what’s more exciting than combining my love of literature with my love of fashion? The skirts are priced at $98 each and the dress is $142. I couldn’t resist so I’ve already placed my order for the Snow White dress and the Little Mermaid skirt!
Normally I would narrow my list down to the top 5 artists I’m excited to see, but Baltimore Comic Con is an exception to all conventions. It was my favorite show I attended of 2012, and it’s always full of the industry’s top talent. Unlike SDCC or NYCC, it’s a much smaller scale convention, and it’s one of few that feels like everything about it is planned for fans. Many creators I’ve talked to have said that Baltimore Comic Con is one of the shows they do the best at, so it’s beneficial for both attendees and industry folk. But enough about the convention! Here’s a list of the top 7 artists I’m dying to buy prints from this year!
