Lately I feel like I’ve been having a fashion identity crisis (which I recently tweeted about!). I really want to add more basic staple pieces to my wardrobe and purge my closet of everything that isn’t autumnal or timelessly fashionable. I want to be able to go into my closet at a moments notice, grab any dress or any skirt / shirt combo and be able to have everything match without giving it a second thought. This means I’ve been filling my fall wardrobe with more reds, blacks, whites, blues, tans and plaids. I’ve also continued to be really attracted to any pieces with heart prints, peter pan collars, ribbon neck ties, etc. As for accessories, I’m loving any simple jewelry made out of silver or gold with the occasional statement ring, blanket scarves, oxfords and chunky heels. My favorite store has always been ModCloth and I’m addicted to browsing their new releases each day at noon so that’s where I’ve been indulging in my evolved fashion choices. What Fall trends are you looking most forward to exploring? Have you also been feeling any wardrobe burnout? (If you want to view the full set & see where you can buy any of these items, click here)
Ever since I read the Nantucket duology by Leila Howland I’ve wished that I could visit Nantucket for a summer. While I don’t miss being in school, I do truly miss having a two plus month summer vacation each year. Since I tend to mostly read YA novels, I feel even more envious of those with a long break just about every time I pick up a book. Why I didn’t become an English teacher with summers off is beyond me. Anyway, Nantucket Red is the second book in the duology and I think this series, more than any, really encompasses ~summer~ I love the main character Cricket and I would do just about anything for a third book because I often daydream about what she’s doing now. When I saw this ModCloth dress, it immediately reminded me of something I could wear to walk the boardwalk so I paired it with my mermaid necklace, chambray headband and sunflower sandals to give it an extra bit of that summer something and make it Nantucket-worthy. If you haven’t read any of Lelia’s lovely series, you can check out my review for the first book, Nantucket Blue, and see if it’s something you’d be interested in.
Last week I devoured my copy of Tiny Pretty Things by Sonia Charaipotra and Dhonielle Clayton and I completely loved everything about it. (You can read my full review here.) I’ve been wanting to do outfit posts inspired by books for a while but now that my bookshelves are finally up and running, I feel like I have the background I envisioned and so my “book looks” outfits are commencing! Tiny Pretty Things is about a bunch of cutthroat ballerinas and if you were anywhere near as obsessed with Center Stage as I was in your teenage years, I have no doubt that you’ll also love this book. I cannot stress how much I truly enjoyed the story, loving and loving to hate the characters, theorizing about the ending and now I’m left dying for it’s sequel Shiny Broken Pieces which comes out on July 12th!
Black Swan meets Pretty Little Liars in this soapy, drama-packed novel featuring diverse characters who will do anything to be the prima at their elite ballet school.
Gigi, Bette, and June, three top students at an exclusive Manhattan ballet school, have seen their fair share of drama. Free-spirited new girl Gigi just wants to dance—but the very act might kill her. Privileged New Yorker Bette’s desire to escape the shadow of her ballet star sister brings out a dangerous edge in her. And perfectionist June needs to land a lead role this year or her controlling mother will put an end to her dancing dreams forever. When every dancer is both friend and foe, the girls will sacrifice, manipulate, and backstab to be the best of the best. (via Goodreads)
I’ve always been a huge fan of Karen Hallion’s artwork but I’ve never felt as compelled to own one of her shirts as when she debuted her Agent Carter design. The top means a lot to me for multiple reasons, the first being that I used to do video recaps each week for the Agent Carter televsion show while it was premiering on ABC. Besides loving the show and the character, I devoted so many hours of those few months to the SSR. I ended up quitting that position shortly after Agent Carter ended because the criticism I received from my then boss was that I’m “too female,” and it “alienates male viewers.” Never have I felt as disheartened about the comic book industry as I did then. Being female is not a thing I can or want to change so channeling Peggy and knowing my value, I quit without the slightest hint of guilt and I’ve never regretted it since.

The season of pumpkin spice has arrived and I couldn’t be more excited! Even though my enthusiasm for my favorite flavor comes along with incessant mocking from my much cooler friends, I couldn’t care less. I am a proud pumpkin spice lover and I truly wish it were available year round. Today’s outfit of the day celebrates the waiting period until September finally hits and the wish that I had magical powers to summon the necessary foods to satiate my cravings. Outfit details below ^.^

This year has been very transitory for me. I met Andrew, I moved into my friend Taylor’s apartment in New York City (less trains YAY!), and I got a new job. Since I’ve moved I’ve been able to focus so much more of my energy on doing the things that make me happy. My stress levels have reduced beyond belief which is due to not having to drive anymore (I HATE driving with a fiery passion), and working in a place where I feel like I belong and my work is appreciated.
There are so many more little things that I’m grateful for each day but these three are the major sources of my happiness. So now, on to Thanksgiving! (Below is my OMG IT’S SNOWING FACE during our train ride back to Long Island.)
This year I basically celebrated Thanksgiving twice. On the actual holiday Andrew and I spent the day with his family (and I got to wear my new fall foliage top from ModCloth!) which is always so much fun! He’s one of five so there is never a dull moment in his household and each member of his family has a different specific interest so they’re all really fascinating to converse with! We watched the Thanksgiving day parade for a little while and I fell completely in love with the winter Pikachu float. SO adorable. Look at that hat and those cheeks!!
I’m a vegetarian and people always assume that means I can’t eat anything on Thanksgiving, but you can see a photo of my FULL plate of food below. So many delicious side dishes! For dinner I always make a sweet potato casserole that basically should be dessert because it tastes like cake. This year I also tried out a new dessert recipe out for these amazing chocolate peanut butter brownies from the Seriously Delish cookbook. It’s a layer of brownies with a peanut butter filling and a milk chocolate ganache topping with mini peanut butter cups. It’s so rich but totally yummy!
The next day we left Andrew’s and headed back to my house to see my parents and my brother. Both sets of my grandparents joined us for leftovers and one of my aunts came over for dessert so since we behaved like Hobbits, we’re referring to it as our Second Thanksgiving. It’s still strange not seeing my family every single day (even though I talk to my mom on the phone almost every night!), so I really love getting the opportunity to go home and spend time with them when I can. After dinner, my newly-married-best-friend-since-first-grade, Amanda, and her husband Brian came over for drinks and to catch up in general. We had so much fun but by the time they left we were EXHAUSTED. Overall, it was one of the best Thanksgiving’s and Second Thanksgiving’s I can ever remember!
PAST & UPCOMING TOPICS
Ever since the sun began making all of our days more pleasant this season I’ve been daydreaming about scorching hot days, oversized sunglasses, ice cream cones, denim shorts, and that incredible energy level that comes along with my favorite season. My last wish list theme was very magical girl, and as I’ve started building my next wish list I’ve noticed that it’s inspired by some of my favorite dessert foods. Macarons, cupcakes and pies, oh my! I decided to start a new list after happening upon the beautiful cherry pie crossbody purse I found by Betsey Johnson last night. It reminds me of one of my favorite television shows, Pushing Daisies, and I feel like I must have it. What does the warm weather having you wish for this summer season?
