Trailer Reaction: Beauty & the Beast Teaser

Talk about a teaser! The trailer released yesterday for the upcoming Beauty and the Beast film is only one minute and thirty one seconds and it only gives us the tiniest glimpse of what’s coming.  First things first, is it me or does that castle look awfully similar to Hogwarts?!  A very fitting aesthetic for a film Emma Watson is going to be starring in!  Then we see the unused ballroom which is covered with cobwebs and decorated in golds fine enough for a French King.  It’s very Marie Antoinette, but it still keeps that gothic vibe.  All of the candles in the next shot remind me of being on that main ride at Harry Potter World and I was half expecting the Sorting Hat to be placed within one of those alcoves in the wall.  “Belle (no last name)… better be… RAVENCLAW!”  The we see what I can only assume is the tiny little child version of the Beast and we hear his guttural grunt when he slashes the painting with his claw.  As the castle door slowly creaks open in the next scene and we hear the iconic phrases uttered by Ewan McGregor (Lumiere) and Ian McKellan (Cogsworth)- Look a girl! Maybe she is the one!- and my heart near exploded with joy.  I cannot even come close to expressing how excited I am to see these actors in their new roles.  The FINALLY, we heard Belle’s voice and see a beautifully artistic shot of the Enchanted Rose!!!!!!  We also get the least revealing shot of Belle’s face hiding behind the rose which I feel like barely counts as the first look at Emma Watson as Belle as all these websites have been claiming.

I have to say that I was really hoping to see Belle’s iconic yellow dress or to view what the Beast will look like but since this is only our first teaser, I’m sure those are coming in due time.  I absolutely adore the entire aesthetic of the castle!  I’m so glad they went with a gothic style, especially since Beauty and the Beast really is one of the darker tales.  It feels really fitting and the darker color scheme really allows the deep red rose to pop.   Plus as I mentioned, I got chills as soon as I heard Lumiere and Cogsworth speak with the voices of some incredible actors.  I cannot believe we have to wait almost an entire year for the film!  I know my anticipation has been building ever since the project was announced.  There also hasn’t been any official posters or images released just yet but I’ll be stalking the Disney Twitter account for hope that something will come our way soon.

The Ultimate Harry Potter Tag

I was so excited when Joana of Metal and the Geek tagged me for this Ultimate Harry Potter Tag because obviously (you can check out her post here)! Harry Potter is everything.  I’m terribly behind on tags but I knew this one and the My Hogwarts Story tag LINK which I posted last week were the two that I counted as my top priority.  I’ve been re-reading the series this year (I’m currently up to Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix so I have to get moving!) and it’s been so much fun to reflect on my opinions as a child and compare them to things I see differently now as an adult. One thing is for sure, the magic of the series has not disappeared for me and I know for sure that it never will<3

I particularly love this tag because it’s so comprehensive.  The questions are divided into different categories and they cover everything from the books to the films.  There will be spoilers ahead so be warned if you somehow have managed to evade them thus far.

Favorite book?

As a child, I would’ve said Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire because it’s one of the first times I remember ever feeling seriously affected by a book.  Cedric Diggory man.  As an adult and through numerous re-reads, I can say that Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is my favorite.  I love that it includes an element of time travel known as retro causality and I absolutely ADORE the Marauders (plz write more Jo k thx).  Luckily Alice LINK has introduced me to this Marauder’s fanfic LINK so I’m getting by really well these days.

Least favorite book?

UGH this is so hard.  If Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone wasn’t the beginning of everything in life for me I would say that one since the Harry-Ron-Hermione trio is so young and it’s a big introduction to the world and the magic which allows for less action overall.  But it is first.  Right now I would say Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix because I remember not loving how angsty Harry became even though it was warranted.  My mind might change after I re-read it though which should be happening really soon.  I will not keep you updated because then I’d have to chose a different least fave.

Favorite movie?

My favorite movie is the same as the book, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.  It’s my go to for when I feel like watching the Wizarding world.  Again, I love the time travel and the Marauder’s but I also feel like the third film is last one to encompass all of the story.  Goblet of Fire is when things start getting really lengthy and every little detail cannot be included or we would’ve ended up with 4-5 hour films (which let’s be real, I want those in my life and I would devote the days necessary to watching them).

Least favorite movie?

The movies are nowhere near as good as the books and I do struggle with some of the major changes (especially the Ravenclaw liberties that were taken) but I have grown fond of them in their own way.  As for least favorite, it would have to be one of the latter films (Order of the Phoenix or Half Blood Prince) because of all the detail that’s missing.  I definitely had to attempt the most explanation to my parents during these because they were VERY confused.

Favorite quote?

“Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times if one only remembers to turn on the light.” – Albus Dumbledore.  A classic but it’s my absolute favorite. I try to think of this quote whenever something minor is getting to me more than it should.

Favorite Weasley?

This is actually a toss up between Molly and Arthur for me!  Molly is so caring and organized and the fact that she manages to take care of so many kids is really inspirational.  I hate that sometimes stay at home mom’s aren’t given proper recognition since it’s not a traditional career but really it’s one of the most important jobs there is.  Each of her children grew up to be extraordinary and it’s in no small part because of Molly’s guidance.  I also love Arthur beyond belief because for several reasons.  He’s friendly and interested in things and unabashedly himself which leads to so much entertainment. I love when he has to pretend to scold the boys for stealing the stolen car and I’m betting that’s exactly how Andrew would be as a dad.  Arthur’s just so good natured and he and Molly are the perfect pair.

Favorite female character?

There are so many amazing female characters in Harry Potter which makes this question the hardest one on the list.  There are logical reasons why Hermione should be my favorite but I’ve always loved Luna Lovegood the most.  She’s quirky and loyal and embraces her inner weirdness.  I wish we could be best friends IRL.

Favorite villain?

I do really love Draco Malfoy.  He underwent a lot of character development throughout the series and by the end you could tell that he was growing comfortable enough in his own skin to reject some of his parents expectations (ie. Dumbledore).  I think adult Draco will have made very different choices than naive young Draco and I would love to read about his experience after Hogwarts.

Favorite male character?

I’m going to be a little controversial here and say Dumbledore.  A lot of readers criticize many of the choices Dumbledore makes throughout the series but to me he always seemed so wise and I think he’s a great leader.  I would love to learn more about his past and how be came to be headmaster.  A young Dumbledore series is the prequel I want second most after the Marauders of course.

Favorite professor?

If this were least favorite Professor I would easily choose Trelawney but alas it is not.  My favorite Professor is definitely Lupin! It’s so sad that he was only able to teach for one year because I think he would’ve been an amazing mentor to future students.  His method of teaching was hands on and would get kids interested and Defense Against the Dark Arts is also really relevant for real life application.

A, Wash Snape’s hair, or B, spend a day listening to Lockhart rant about himself.

A, wash Snape’s hair.  Lockhart is simply intolerable.

Duel A, an elated Bellatrix, or B, an angry Molly

Definitely Bellatrix. Molly is such a good person that I could never duel with her in good conscience.  And I would never try to hurt any of the Weasley’s so she would have no reason to be angry enough to duel with me.

Travel to Hogwarts via A. Hogwarts Express or B. flying car.

A. Hogwarts Express without any hesitation.  I love trains.  I love Wizarding World snacks.  I would love getting to catch up with friends about our summer holiday as soon as possible!

A, Kiss Voldemort. Or B, give Umbridge a bubble bath.

Umm, are we talking the early days Tom Riddle Voldemort or the fallen from power and barely a human Voldemort?  I just rly don’t want to be near Umbridge ever.

A, ride a hippogriff, B, ride a firebolt

B, Firebolt! And there would be some type of parody singing involving Aladdin’s A Whole New World.

Is there a character which you felt differently about in the movies vs books?

Bellatrix.  I HATED her in the books and while I also hated her in the film, Helena Bonham Carter did such a wonderful job of portraying an insane villain that I also felt more intrigued by her character.

Is there a movie you preferred instead of the book?

Richard Harris or Michael Gambon as Dumbledore?

They were both good! Although Gambon spoke more quickly which appeals to my New York pace.

Your top thing (person or event) which wasn’t included in the movie that annoyed you most.

I’m going to have to agree with Joana on this one and say the truth about Neville’s parents.  Neville is a great character and I think it’s vital to the story to know the complete story of his past and what he’s been struggling with his whole life.  It explains a lot about him as a person and I think that cutting it from the films is a disservice to those who may not have read the books.

If you could remake any of the Potter movies, which would it be?

I would split Goblet of Fire, Order of the Phoenix and Half Blood Prince into two films each which would probably be an adequate amount of time to include what’s missing.

Which house was your first gut feeling you’d be a part of?

When I read the first 4 books I identified with Gryffindor because Gryffindor and Slytherin were the most prominent houses and if there’s one thing I am not it’s a Slytherin (no offense to my best friends because the majority of them reside there).

Which house were you actually sorted into on Pottemore (or another online sorting quiz)?

Ravenclaw! And all was right with the world.  My sorting happened after I continued reading and put a lot of thought into which house I actually belong in.

Which class would be your favourite?

Which spell do you think would be most useful to learn?

The Summoning Charm because I’m lazy and I hate when I sit down to watch TV and realize I left the remote across the room.  As you also might know, I own a lot of stuff.  The Summoning Charm would be great when I can’t find a specific book or if I just don’t have time to dismantle the organization of a particular bookshelf to grab it.

Which character do you think at Hogwarts you’d instantly become best friends with?

Hermione.  I love being around intelligent people and picking up little tidbits of information here and there.  It would be a privilege to befriend Hermione and I would hang on to each piece of her Hogwarts, a History trivia.

Screen Shot 2015-10-04 at 8.27.15 PM

If you could own one of the three Hallows, which would it be?

The invisibility cloak.  I learned the lesson that The Tales of the Beedle Bard was trying to send thank you very much.

Is there any aspect of the books you’d want to change? This can be a character, and event, anything.

NO THEY’RE PERFECT. (Although maybe there would be more of a revolution from S.P.E.W. and Fred / Lupin / Tonks / Sirius could live? I’m sure that’s not too much to ask)

Favorite marauder?

Lupin! Favorite teacher, favorite Marauder.  He has a good heart and he tried to always keep James and Sirius in check.

1If you could bring one character back to life, which would it be?

Cedric Diggory.  Cedric was in the wrong place at the wrong time and I think his death was really unfair.  He was so young and he had so much life ahead of him.  I’m sure he would’ve helped at the Battle of Hogwarts if he had been given the opportunity.

Hallows or horcruxes?

Hallows! Horcruxes are just plain terrifying to me.

And now for the tagging part! I’m going to try to tag bloggers who I know are also Harry Potter enthusiasts.  So I tag Sara from Sincerely Sara, Kristin from My Life as a Teacup, Alice of A Nudge in the Right Direction, Alice of The Geeky Burrow, Gwen of Like Gwen Stacy and Travis of Travis the Grimm.

And for no good reason here are some Halloween themed Hogwarts gifs.

5 Fandom Friday: Favorite Theme Park Rides

Writing this post has caused me to start thinking about the next time I’ll be able to hop on a plane to Florida to visit Kristin and go to Disney and Harry Potter World<3  We always have so much fun when we’re together and I think a visit is long overdue!

1) Hogwarts Castle Ride @ Universal – Just being in Harry Potter world is a big enough treat, but going on the Hogwarts Castle ride and seeing Hogwarts in such great detail is an absolute dream come true!  The only part I don’t love is the spiders!

2) Star Tours @ Disney World – This is my favorite of any theme park ride and anytime I’m at Disney, I beeline for Star Tours.  I love feeling like I’m actually in space.  I haven’t ever been lucky enough to be the rebel yet, but I’m hopeful that it’ll happen one day!

3) Indiana Jones ride @ Disneyland – I wish this ride was also at Disney World because Florida is way more convenient to get to than California.

4) Peter Pan’s Flight @ Disney – While Disney’s Peter Pan is my least favorite interpretation of J.M Barrie’s play, I do really love the ride!  It’s so exciting to see all the characters and be taken through Neverland.

5) Spider-Man ride @ Universal – I love all the easter eggs in this ride!  Even when you’re just waiting on the line, you pass by Ben Ulrich’s office among others.  I tend to prefer simulated rides because I’m a big baby when it comes to roller coasters not even because of the speed and drops but because I just imagine how bad it could be if the ride breaks.  Which actually happened on this ride and I was terrified while Kristin just laughed at me and talked about how the ride was actually exciting for once.  She’s quite the daredevil.

2015 Divination Planner

I’ve always been a pen and paper kind of gal when it comes to planners.  Anytime I tell someone that I’ve been spending the past few weeks carrying around a 2014 and 2015 planner I’m met with tons of responses about Google calendars.  I get it.  I know they’re much easier to tote around since all the information is stored in your phone, but for me, a virtual calendar just doesn’t work.  I like having the option of flipping freely between weeks and months while I’m planning without having to hit a dot to tell me what’s happening certain days.  I love using highlighters to signify different releases (theatrical releases, blu-rays, comics, books, music, etc.), and there is something inherently satisfying about crossing off days when I’m counting down to a big event (CHRISTMAS!).  I put a lot of care into choosing my planner each year and I’m super excited about my 2015 pick.  It’s a Harry Potter themed Divination planner from Ruskerville’s Etsy shop.  Also for sale are really cute Doctor Who and Sherlock planners but being the proud Ravenclaw Potterhead that I am, I couldn’t have picked anything else.  The first page has a student profile and there are Deathly Hallows symbols printed atop each day of the week alternating with a Harry Potter glasses and lighting scar icon.  The last pages which are designated for notes are printed with the word “Always,” because Snape<3.

5 Fandom Friday: Geeky Clothing Items I Need In My Closet Immediately

Screen Shot 2014-09-25 at 7.48.24 AM

It’s time for the next installment of 5 Fandom Friday!  Today’s topic is near and dear to my heart because it combines my two biggest loves- fashion, and fandoms.  For those that don’t know I attended college at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, so fashion has always been a major aspect of my life.  And just from the general internet, I think it’s pretty clear that I’m super passionate about lots of fandoms, but my big two are comics and Harry Potter. So anyway, clothes!  These are the top five things I need in my closet immediately!

Black Milk Clothing Harley Quinn Reversible Skater Dress – This dress is part of BlackMilk’s next collection “Hot Mess” and comes out next week! I just reached my 50 pieces so they sent me a gift voucher for $130 and now I’m even more excited to make my next purchases!

Vena Dress – I have been eyeing this Venasaur dress on Etsy for quite some time.  It’s such an adorable interpretation of one of my favorite Pokemon so I think it’s only a matter of time before I add it to my collection!

Harry Potter Student Uniform Dress – I just stumbled upon this dress on the Hot Topic website the other day and I adore the way it’s been styled! I already have a pair of the Ravenclaw knee high socks so all I need is the dress and the sweater to complete the look!4

Battlestar Galactica Admiral Skirt & Silk Double Tank – These gorgeous high fashion pieces of apparel are designed by a new clothing label called Cozday Clothing.  They’re a little on the expensive side, but a girl can dream.  The skirt was fashioned after Admiral Adama’s uniform and the silk tank is a high fashion interpretation of the double tanks worn by Viper pilots.
5New Batgirl Redesign Hoodie – I am basically obsessed with the new Batgirl redesign and I was astounded when this amazing hoodie appeared online within days of the new announcement.  I love that the shoulder even include the snaps on Batgirl’s new threads.  I only wish it were 1) available to purchase and 2) purple instead of grey.

5 Fictional Places I Would Love to Live

Several days ago on Twitter, I asked everyone if they could choose a place, real or imagined, and live there, where it would be.  I was met with an overwhelming number of responses that continued throughout the day and I felt so inspired by everyone’s differing opinions that I decided to compile a list of my own fictional places I would love to move to.  The truth is that given the opportunity to move, I would choose to stay where I am, but it’s still fun to daydream!  I would create a list of real places too, but as New York is the only real place I would like to live in, the list would be quite short.  I’m sure no one will find it surprising that two of the five places I chose are fictional version of New York =^.^=
Sugar Rush – Sugar Rush is one of the newest imaginary places that I fell in love with while seeing Wreck-It Ralph last weekend.  This simulated land is the setting for a video game and it was built completely out of sweets.  Everyone who resides in Sugar Rush is a type of candy, or they incorporate candy into their signature looks (ie Vanellope’s sweet hair accessories).  Sugar Rush is like Candyland, only more pink, and ruled as a democracy.
Fabletown –  Fabletown is the first alternate NYC that I would like to reside in.  But just to be clear, I would be a Fable and not a mundy.  More specifically, I would probably be Cinderella, better known to the Fables as Cindy.  I would wander around Bullfinch street, have an even vaster shoe collection than I have now, and venture out into the real New York City anytime my heart desired.  And I’d get to go on secret missions for Bigby!  (I couldn’t find a great image of Fabletown, so the image above is one of my favorite Fables covers for issue #118)
Hogwarts – Hogwarts is a gorgeous castle with an enormous library burgeoning with tons of magical books that I have yet to read.  I’d love to spend hours reading Hogwarts, A History while drinking a frosty butterbeer in the common room, or strolling around the castle until whatever mischief I would inevitably get myself into is managed.  Plus, the Great Hall is charming during Halloween and Christmas<3
Star Wars Universe – In my mind, this could only be the perfect scenario: Traveling through the galaxy with C3PO and R2D2 accompanying Han Solo and I on the Millennium Falcon (my favorite spacecraft)!  We’d stop on the Death Star and have run-ins with Vader and some Stormtroopers and everything would be stellar.  Knowing me, I would have lightsaber fights galore (mine would be purple like Mara Jade’s).  The force is strong with my love of Star Wars and space.
Superhero Inhabited NYC – If my city was inhabited with superheroes my dreams would be a reality.  In a world where Spider-Man, Batman, the Fantastic Four, and Dick Grayson could be seen at a any moment walking through NYC, I would be an even happier girl.  I would be best friends with Stephanie Brown, and I would definitely be there to fill the Gwen Stacy sized void in Spider-Man’s heart.  There would also be so many other heroes visiting their NY friends all of the time and I’d be surrounded by everything I love most.  The only downside would be the many villains the city would attract, but something tells me there would be enough good guys to prevail that it wouldn’t be a major issue.
