Turn of the Season: Goodbye, Summer! Hello, Autumn! – Fall bucket list

Turn of the Season is a week long blogging event being hosted by Alexa of Alexa Loves Books and I.  Alexa is a sweet Summer child and I’m an Autumn fox baby so we wanted to put together an event celebrating the end of Alexa’s season and the beginning of mine.  Throughout the week we’ll be highlighting some of our summer favorites as well as our autumn anticipations!

Fall TV Anxiety Strikes

It seems like every Fall I get stuck in the same endless cycle of Fall TV anxiety.  I LOVE the Fall.  I LOVE new TV shows and getting to see new episodes of old favorites.  I actively follow all of the news surrounding upfronts, every bit of casting information I come across, and I find joy in reading the synopses of new shows prior to even seeing the preliminary trailers.  I make lists of all the shows that seem promising (I even gathered those into a video this year – Supergirl FTW!), I mark my calendar with all of the premiere dates and I enthusiastically set my DVR for the upcoming season.

In the first few weeks of September show premieres tend to be staggered.  Only two shows the first week?  DONE.  What? We’re adding a third in the next week? Totes handleable.  By the third week I’m still feeling pretty good and I’m locking down the final schedule of shows I’m sticking with.  Things are going well.  I’m up to date (with the exception of Jeopardy because that premieres every single day so I’m bound to rack up a few episodes here and there).  I’ve even been able to tweet reactions to shows on the night they air (spoiler free of course)!  I’m feeling good.  Things are good.

The next thing I know it’s October and some of the shows I committed to last season are returning.  New Flash (MY FAVORITE), Arrow, Fresh Off the Boat, The Mindy Project and New Girl (just to name a few), what more could a girl ask for?  Suddenly, family things keep coming up.  I’m spending a lot of time during the week catching up on blogging, reading and BookTubing since my weekends have been booked solid. I’m still able to dedicate a small amount of time to TV but realistically I’m only enjoying one 45-min episode or 2-3 20 minute episodes per night.  Unfortunately my lack of time doesn’t stop new episodes from airing.  It’s okay I think. I HAVE to have a free weekend soon.  I’ll just binge watch some stuff!

The weekend comes and goes.  I’ve barely made a dent in the shows I have to catch up on because unexpected life things keep coming up.  I can’t exactly tell my family I have no time to talk to them because there are rumors circulating that the Red Devils will be revealed on Scream Queens next week and I’m still four episodes behind.  I look at my DVR. 85% full.  My anxiety levels start skyrocketing.  I think about how I’m never going to catch up.  “Why do I do this to myself?!” I wonder.  Can I even go online anymore without being spoiled about something I’m behind on?  Then Jessica Jones premieres on Netflix in its entirety and clearly takes precedent over everything else because JESSICA JONES.  Panic attack ensue. (This is the stage I’m in now).

The next thing I know, it’s the holiday season.  Things in TV land are calming down as shows prepare for their Winter hiatuses.  I’m excited.  That means I’ll have weeks of time to catch up before everything resumes.  And it’s Winter.  What introvert wants to leave their house in the Winter?  Not this one.  I barely like committing to going anywhere in the Summer but suddenly I have a valid and widely accepted weather excuse to use.  It’s like a gift.  I see so many cold nights snuggling under blankets with Andrew, my Wii-mote, and lots of chocolate in my near future.  I’m sure to catch up at this rate…  Only, I’ll be adding Agent Carter to my watch list in January.  And X-Files. And Legends of Tomorrow.  And Swords of Shannara.  And…

…I give up.

Until May at least.  Everything is ending. As long as I don’t fall more than 5 episodes behind on anything I can clear my DVR of recent episodes and depend on Hulu.  There’s usually at least one or two shows I’ve decided to give up on by this point.  Whether it’s due to lack of time or interest, it’s bound to happen.  I’m finally there. I’ve finally done it.  I’ve seen all the things (or shows have been cancelled {RIP Constantine, I miss you buddy!} or I’ve come to terms with what I’ll watch when it’s released on Netflix).

It usually takes until at least mid-May to fully catch up on everything I care about watching.  Coincidentally, this is when upfronts week occurs.  The cycle re-starts itself.

Do you ever feel this way or go through a similar cycle? Am I the only who stresses herself out about something that’s supposed to be entertainment?  I’m fairly certain that before social media I was never faced with this problem.  Also DVR-ing  of the past actually meant asking my mom to record Dawson’s Creek and Charmed on VHS tapes.  Maybe that’s how I missed out on Gilmore Girls and why I’m only now trying to catch up on all 8 seasons amid the madness of the Fall TV season.

5 Fandom Friday: Favorite Things About Autumn + October Topics + A SURPRISE!

I will preface this weeks 5 Fandom Friday by saying I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT AUTUMN.  I love the cooler weather.  I love wearing sweaters and scarves and sipping hot drinks and walking through colored leaves and getting into the Halloween spirit.  But above all, I love the feeling that comes along with Autumn.  It’s when school is starting back up and people seem more motivated and less aggravated by the unbearable heat and it’s just a generally great time of the year.  A few weeks ago I posted my Autumn activities list and I’m already scheduling the time to dedicate to the things I want to do to completely enjoy and appreciate the season (plus, I’m so close to beating Luigi’s Mansion which is one of my goals so HOORAY!).

1

1) Pumpkin Everything! – I’ve already gone one several sprees to pick up any and all Pumpkin flavored foods at my local Target.  I have yet to haul pumpkin goods from my annual Fall Trader Joe’s trip but I’m planning on going there in the coming weeks once everything is in stock.  Last year I did a comprehensive end of season review of almost everything I tried and I feel good about knowing which things I can skip this year.  I’ve been having my lunch on pumpkin spice bread every day for the past two weeks and it’s been the best thing in the world.22) Pumpkin & Apple Picking  – Last year I went to this amazing gem of a place for pumpkin and apple picking with my now fiancee Andrew and my BFF Melissa. We’re planning on heading back again this year with Andrew’s many siblings (he’s one of five!) and I cannot wait because they’re all so great<3  There’s a giant corn maze with a mystery you have to solve, homemade Apple Cider donuts that you can watch being made while you wait on the line and of course, pumpkins and apples for picking!

3) Fall Wardrobe – I adore wearing sweaters, scarves and boots and the crisp Autumn air always demands it<3  I can’t wait to break out my sweaters again and accessorize for the cooler air.  Plus, leather jackets! And I just recently reintroduced jeans into my wardrobe so I’m already foreseeing some adorable ensembles.

4) Fall Landscapes – I always feel so lucky to live close enough to Central Park that I can pop over once the leaves start changing and spend a few hours strolling around and admiring the view.  Fall is so colorful which is exactly what I crave and I love stepping through leaves on the ground in knee high boots.  This is one of my favorite photos I took of the Bow Bridge last Fall (you may recognize it from Amy & Rory’s final episode of Doctor Who!) and you can see the rest of my photos here.   I can’t wait to spend some time there with Andrew this year!5

5) PIE – This goes along with my first fall fave because Pumpkin Pie is everything! But I am not discriminatory and I love all pie in general I thought it made sense to include it on my list as it’s own category.  Autumn pies are so delicious and I cannot wait to put more Pecan Pie in my mouth.

5 Fandom Friday

And now, Megan and I are ahead of the game for October topics for a very special reason.  You may have noticed that I have a new 5 Fandom Friday graphic as my featured image and that is because my fiancee Andrew has been patiently teaching me Photoshop (despite how frustrated this n00b would get when trying to create / color all the fandom icons).  I knew the first thing I wanted to create would be fandom related and I figured, what better way to experiment than to create something new for 5 Fandom Friday?!  So in addition to the October topics which will be listed below, we’re also going to debut a 5 Fandom Friday Instagram Photo A Day Challenge for the month of October!  I wanted to post it early so that everyone would have time to take their photos and we really hope you’ll enjoy playing along this month! If everyone likes it, it may be something we continue with!  You can follow along on mine and Megan’s instagrams (we’ll be posting the graphic there too later in the week) and we’re both anxious for October 1st so we can start perusing the hashtag and see all the geeky goodness in our feeds!

YouTube: Top 5 Fall TV Shows

Today I’m posting my first non-BookTube video and it’s all about the 5 new Fall TV shows I’m most anticipating!  I’m going to be filming in a different area of my room in front of some of my favorite convention artwork that I recently hung for all of my non-book videos because I’m going to do be doing more!  I read through numerous synopses and watched so many trailers before I was able to narrow it down to just five.  I decided to include only new TV shows (otherwise my list would’ve been Flash 5x).  What are you most looking forward to seeing premiere?
