Love-A-Thon 2017 Sign-Ups!

Today is the day! I’m so excited to be able to announce that the 2017 Love-a-Thon is happening – and official sign-ups are open today!  The Love-A-Thon has been my favorite bookish event of the year since I first discovered it.  It’t the event that got me to break out of my shell and befriend a bunch of book bloggers who I had been admiring from afar and it also helped me discover a whole slew of new book bloggers who hadn’t previously been on my radar but I’ve since taken to reading every single one of their posts!  And now this year, I’m getting to join the Love-A-Thon as a co-host!!!  This year Love-A-Thon will be hosted by Alexa of Alexa Loves Books, Cee of The Novel Hermit, Mel of The Daily Prophecy and yours truly!  We’ve brainstormed some really fun ideas to challenge you creatively, and to encourage you to develop and strengthen the positive friendships you’ve formed in our online book community!  And this is why the Love-A-Thon has always been my favorite book event.  It’s not about spending as much as time possible reading over a two day period, it’s about connecting with other avid readers in the bookternet-verse! Whether it’s a blog, a Twitter account, an Instagram account or a YouTube channel, we’re so excited to invite you to help spread the love again this year!

The Love-a-Thon is an event dedicated to spreading positivity and love. It’s time dedicated to visiting other bloggers/Instagrammers/BookTubers, leaving a comment or two, making new friends and fostering positivity among the members of our amazing community. As in the previous years, the event will include mini challenges, Twitter chats and giveaways galore! The full schedule will be sent to you when you’ve signed up, so you can start preparing your posts in advance.

We’re really looking forward to seeing everyone participate in sharing love, encouragement and inspiration all over the bookish communities on the blogosphere, Instagram and YouTube! And, of course, we hope everyone will have fun. If you’re interested in participating, please fill in the sign-up form below. Once that’s done, you can consider yourself an official #LoveAThon participant!

2016 Book Blogger #LoveAThon: Mini-challenge #1: Mix & Match

As I mentioned previously, this is the second year I’ll be participating in the Book Blogger’s Love-A-Thon.  This year, the event is being hosted by Alexa ofAlexa Loves Books, Hazel of Stay Bookish, Mel of The Daily Prophecy and Cee of the The Novel Hermit.  Sign-ups are still open so there’s time if you want to join in (and you should) and the Love-A-Thon takes place from February 20th – 22nd.  It’s the perfect way to meet new book bloggers and make new friends<3

*Don’t forget to check out my #LoveAThon Bookshelf Challenge Video!

**And my Introduction Questionnaire!

The Challenge: We all love books, but there are other things we’re passionate about too! Mash-up a non-bookish hobby/passion/talent/fandom with your bookish life. Do it through photos, art, videos, etc. Get as creative as you’d like!

I’m a lover of all things fairytale related so for this challenge I chose to pair up each book in The Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer with some of my favorite Disney collectibles.  I especially love that we’re living in a time where Star Wars counts as part of the Disney family<3

2016 Book Blogger Love-A-Thon: Introduction Questionnaire

The first event is the Introduction Questionnaire.  I’ve already answered some of these questions in last year’s post but I’ll reiterate them here for anyone who may be new to my blog!  Some of my answers have changed and some new questions were added to the mix this year!

1. What’s your name?

Hello bookworms!  I’m Kristin and I’m a tea-addicted Ravenclaw.  It’s a pleasure to virtually meet you ^_^

2. Where in the world are you blogging from?

New York (aka the greatest place on Earth)

3. How did you get into blogging in the first place?

I’ve always enjoyed writing and I used to blog for a niche news site but I really wanted to have my own outlet to share my interests and connect with others on a more personal level and so, my blog was born!

4. How did you come up with your blog name?

I decided to use the same name as my Twitter handle so I could keep it streamlined and be easier to find in other places online.  I came up with the name by combining my love of superheroes with my love of space and added the chick part since I also blog about girly things like fashion, beauty, etc.

Screen Shot 2016-02-19 at 11.10.08 PM

5. What genre do you read and review the most on your blog?

I think there’s a solid mix of things here but I primarily focus on YA Fantasy, YA Contemporary, and Comics / Graphic Novels.

6. What other types of posts do you do on your blog, apart from reviews?

Apart from book reviews, I love to post about 1) (also book related) my BookTube channel, 2) new beauty finds and upcoming releases / collaborations, 2) 5 Fandom Friday which is a weekly link-up created by myself and The Nerdy Girlie (my favorite post so far is Fictional Couples I Ship), 3) Outfit of the day photos, 4) Life Lately which are general life updates about what I’ve been up to, and 5) wish list posts which usually consist of collectibles or other fandom related merchandise.

7. Best blogging experience so far?

This is tough because there have been so many positives that have come from blogging!  I can’t choose just one of the memories I’ve created by meeting and connecting with other people who share my interests and all of the opportunities I’ve had because of my site.  Since I’ve started blogging I’ve been able to attend a slew of conventions as press, be cast on a reality tv show, have conversations over dinner with some of my favorite authors and artists, travel extensively, take over as the host of a YouTube channel with almost 100,000 subscribers, but most importantly of all, I’ve met my absolute best friends<3.

8. Favorite thing about the blogging community?

I love that there are so many wonderful and supportive people who are just as excited to talk about books and fashion and life in general as I am!

Screen Shot 2016-02-19 at 11.09.40 PM

9. Name the 5 books you’re most excited for this 2016!

Some of my most anticipated releases already debuted so I’m going to spotlight the ones that have yet to be released (most of which, I’ve written about for Waiting on Wednesday posts!): 1) Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, 2) A Court of Mist and Fury, 3) The Shadow Hour, 4) Rebel Genius, and 5) The Raven King

10. Name the 5 books you want to read this 2016 that you didn’t get to in previous years!

I made a video about this at the end of 2015 and I’ve already started widdling away at that list!  The next 5 I want to get to are 1) Graceling by Kristin Cashore 2) Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo 3) An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir 4) Uprooted by Naomi Novik and 5) The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch

11. What’s an underrated book or series that you think everyone should read?

The Girl at Midnight by Melissa Grey! I really loved Melissa’s first book and I cannot wait to get my hands on The Shadow Hour!

12. Which book boy or girl would be your book BFF?

My book BFF is totally Hermione Granger.  While she’s not my favorite Harry Potter character overall (I’m a hardcore Luna Lovegood fan!), I know that the two of us would get along really well.  I could just picture us grabbing tea and spending late nights in the library together or practicing magic while Hermione tells me stories about how silly Ron is acting.

Screen Shot 2016-02-19 at 11.11.46 PM

13. Which book boy or girl would be your book boyfriend/girlfriend?

Prince Maxon for sure!

14. Who would you recruit for your apocalypse squad (5 characters max)

1) Celaena Sardothien (Throne of Glass), 2) Rose (Vampire Academy), 3) Hermione Granger (Harry Potter) 4) Katniss Everdeen (The Hunger Games) and 5) Scarlet Witch (Marvel Comics)

15. Apart from reading, what are your other hobbies or interests?

I went to FIT for college so I’ve always been really interested in fashion (and by extension, shopping).  I also love learning about different brews of tea, reading book blogs and watching BookTubers, attending comic conventions, cosplay, eating cupcakes / ice cream / macarons, watching Netflix, and anything Disney and Harry Potter-related.

16. Apart from book shopping, what else do you like shopping for?

More than anything, I love shopping for new clothes, Disney collectibles and comic artwork.  I check ModCloth’s website every single day at 12PM when new items are added.  I also love looking for retro style home decor, and baking ware.  I also follow a ton of Disney blogs and I search their website for new merchandise every day! I’m sort of addicted to Disney mugs and Tsum Tsums.  As for comic art, I buy the bulk of that at conventions when I’m able to meet the artist and have whichever pieces I choose signed.

17. At a party, the DJ suddenly changes the song – and it’s your song. What song would you be playing?

I would congratulate the DJ for being awesome enough to play the Hamilton soundtrack at whatever event I happen to be at.

Screen Shot 2016-02-19 at 11.07.09 PM

18. Pick out either a book you want turned into a film/TV show, or a film/TV show you want turned into a book.

I am so hesitant to chose anything for this question after the tragedy of The Shadowhunters movie and television show (which I’m still watching because how could I not?), but if it were to be done WELL I would love to see The Selection series.  It has such a high addiction factor and it would be so nice to see all of the dresses and food and inside the palace on screen.

19. What would your dream library look like?

Duh, Belle’s library.  My coworker and I were talking about buying two story houses solely so we could knock down the ceiling of the first floor and have REALLY tall libraries with ladders because that is the dream.

20. Author you want to meet and sit down to tea with?

I’ve already met her but I would love to have tea with Victoria Schwab! I really love her books and if you follow her Twitter account you’d know what a huge fangirl she is so we would totally get along!

2016 Book Blogger Love-A-Thon: BookTuber’s Bookshelf Challenge

I often talk about how my favorite event I partook in last year was the Book Blogger’s Love-A-Thon which is spearheaded by Alexa Loves Books.  It’s where I met most the the book bloggers I’m friendly with today and I was able to meet so many new and lovely people!  My Feedly is basically overflowing with book blogs I discovered as a result of participating so when Alexa asked me if I would be a BookTube Ambassador for the 2016 event, I jumped at the chance!  This year, the Book Blogger’s Love-A-Thon is being hosted by Alexa of Alexa Loves Books, Hazel of Stay Bookish, Mel of The Daily Prophecy and Cee of the The Novel Hermit.  Sign-ups are still open so there’s time if you want to join in (and you should)! The Love-A-Thon takes place from February 20th – 22nd.  There are a ton of Twitter chats, mini-challenges, blog post prompts, and this year there’s even a Bookstagram challenge! I’m really looking forward to meeting more book bloggers and connecting with more people on multiple platforms!

#LoveAThon Mini-challenge #3: One Can Only Quote

Screen Shot 2015-02-20 at 7.19.43 AM

I love this challenge that Alexa came up with for the Book Blogger Love-A-Thon!  It’s the third mini challenge of the day (I didn’t participate in the book spine poetry challenge because I’m apparently awful at that or the second challenge, bookish Valentine’s because I’ve been filming BookTube videos all afternoon with Melissa Grey), but I’m back for the One Can Only Quote challenge!  In this post I’ll be sharing some of my favorite love quotes from some of my favorite books.  Leave some of your favorites in the comments below!

Love Letters to the Dead by Ava Dellairia

“When we are in love, we are both completely in danger and completely saved.”

“There are a lot of human experiences that challenge the limits of our language,” she said. “That’s one of the reasons that we have poetry.”

2Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

“And in that moment, I swear we were infinite.”

The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson

“… if you’re someone who knows the worst thing can happen at any time, aren’t you also someone who knows the best thing can happen at any time too?”

“I know the expression love bloomed is metaphorical, but in my heart in this moment, there is one badass flower, captured in time-lapse photography, going from bud to wild radiant blossom in ten seconds flat.”

1

Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

“For the two of us, home isn’t a place. It is a person. And we are finally home.”

6
Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins

“When it’s right, it’s simple.”

“And if I’m the stars, Cricket Bell is entire galaxies.”

Lola and the boy next door

Looking for Alaska

“So I walked back to my room and collapsed on the bottom bunk, thinking that if people were rain, I was drizzle and she was a hurricane.”

“When I look at my room, I see a girl who loves books.”

I think there’s a solid mix of things but it would have to be a three way tie between YA Sci-Fi / Fantasy, YA Contemporary, and Comics / Graphic Novels.

6. What other types of posts do you do on your blog, apart from reviews?

Apart from book reviews, I love to post about 1) I’ve recently started a BookTube channel so I’ve begun posting my videos, 2) my favorite locations in NYC (usually pertaining to food of some sort, and more specifically, dessert foods), 2) 5 Fandom Friday which is a weekly link-up created by myself and The Nerdy Girlie (my favorite post so far is Fictional Couples I Ship), 3) Kristin’s Kitchen which is a column about the sweet treats I bake using my pink KitchenAid mixer and 4) Life Lately which are general life updates about what I’ve been up to.

9. Name the 5 books you’re most excited for this 2015!

In order of release date (not including Jan & Feb since those already debuted) I would have to choose 1) A Darker Shade of Magic by VE Schwab, 2) The Start of Me and You by Emery Lord, 3) The Girl at Midnight by Melissa Grey, 4) A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas and 5) P.S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han. (Also Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone Illustrated Edition)

10. What’s an underrated book or series that you think everyone should read?

The Archived series by Victoria Schwab.  IT IS SO GOOD THAT IT DESERVES THIS ALL CAPS RECOMMENDATION!

14. At a party, the DJ suddenly changes the song – and it’s your song. What song would you be playing?

Jenny and Johnny – My Pet Snakes from their I’m Having Fun Now album.  It’s such a catchy, upbeat and fun tune!  I can never resist singing along when it comes up in my iTunes playlist.

15. Pick out either a book you want turned into a film/TV show, or a film/TV show you want turned into a book.

I really want to see The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern turned into a film.  I imagine it would be incredibly aesthetically pleasing and I can already envision a color scheme which matches the gorgeous book cover.
