Outfit of the Day: Accio Pumpkin Spice

The season of pumpkin spice has arrived and I couldn’t be more excited! Even though my enthusiasm for my favorite flavor comes along with incessant mocking from my much cooler friends, I couldn’t care less. I am a proud pumpkin spice lover and I truly wish it were available year round.  Today’s outfit of the day celebrates the waiting period until September finally hits and the wish that I had magical powers to summon the necessary foods to satiate my cravings. Outfit details below ^.^

Comics, Desserts, Hobbits & Cartoons

I’ve been itching to get into a better blogging routine for posting more on SuperSpaceChick since it’s my personal site and I have some of the most fun writing things here than I do any other place.  I’ve already been plotting some really exciting things with The Nerdy Girlie and I cannot wait to debut our new idea to all our blogger friends out there on the interwebz!  I’m sure we’ll even make some new ones in the process :-D  But, since this has been one whirlwind of an eventful week, I thought I’d share all of the wonderful things that’ve been happening in my first foray back into blogging!

It’s been a very slow moving process for me to bring all of my beloved collectibles, books, comics, and other assorted treasures to my new home.  I moved into an apartment in Brooklyn in May with my good friend Taylor and my new friend Emma.  Since then, it’s been weekend after weekend of my wonderfully supportive family and boyfriend Andrew driving from my old Long Island home to my new place and carrying heavy bag after heavy bag of graphic novels, shoes, statues, video games, books, and more up several flights of stairs and into my bright pink room.  In the last batch of packed items I hauled some of my favorite comfort graphic novels since I had previously tried to fill my shelves with things I have yet to read.  Since I have less space here it’s been quite a project to prioritize and determine which things I want to have here and which collectibles should be displayed.  One of my creative ways to display more toys was to prop my TV set up on several art books so I could place my Star Wars themed Disney Vinylmations in front of the set without blocking the picture.  It’s kind of funny to think that I’ve been trying to de-clutter my online life (another project this week was to unfriend anyone on Facebook that isn’t a close personal friend, a family member, or someone I communicate with regularly online), while trying to maximize the clutter in my real life.

IMG_9238While I’m on the subject of comics, SPIDER-GWEN came out last week and it was literally one of the best moments of my life.  It’s part of the Spider-Verse story arc and it takes place in an alternate dimension where Gwen Stacy was bitten by a spider and becomes Spider-Woman.  Even more exciting than this is that Gwen is awesome.  She’s the drummer in a band called The Mary Janes with Mary Jane Watson as the lead vocalist.  Their hit song is fittingly titled Face It Tiger and there’s already a band that recorded their interpretation of the song!  It has a punk feel which totally fits the story.  I love the father/daughter dynamic of the story between Gwen and Captain Stacy and I really really really hope Marvel sees all of the positive feedback they’ve been getting and the pleading so many of us have done online for a Spider-Gwen ongoing series.  Gwen has always been my favorite Marvel lady for Peter Parker.  They’re my OTP.  To see Gwen in this one issue (and ASM #9) is a dream come true.  The variant cover even looks exactly like yours truly!

photoLately I’ve been on a major Disney kick.  I think it all began when I saw that Disney came out with a second wave of their beautiful fairytale collection mugs.  I have the Tangled mug from the first collection which I purchased after admiring Megan’s.  I remember how quickly they sold out of stores so a few hours after my discovery I speed walked over to the Disney Store in Times Square on my lunch break and I picked up the Aurora mug.  I also bought my first Tsum Tsum, Minnie, and she is just precious.  Shortly after that, Betty told me about the Tsum Tsum game that I could play on my iPhone, and let’s just say that Andrew has mentioned the word intervention more than once since I made my account.  It’s a really fast paced 60 second game where you have to connect as many of the same Tsum Tsum’s as possible.  The more points and coins you accrue, the more Tsum Tsum’s you can purchase and the higher level you’ll achieve.  It’s also fun because several of my other friends play too and we send each other hearts every chance we get!  Then on Saturday night Andrew agreed to have a Disney movie marathon with me.  We decided to watch The Little Mermaid, my personal favorite, and Frozen, my second favorite.  The marathon also included Ben & Jerry’s Peanut Butter Core Ice Cream which is just heavenly and brings us to the dessert and food portion of my post.  (Sleeping Beauty is coming out on blu-ray in October, so we’re going to fit that into our viewing schedule as soon as we get a copy too!)

It’s been big few weeks of desserts for me.  I’ve always had a sweet tooth and I’ve been trying my hardest to eat really healthy during the week for breakfast and lunch, that way I don’t feel as bad about indulging in some sugary sweets later on in the day.  The first photo, which may look like an ordinary Starbucks cup, is full of one of my seasonal favorites, the Pumpkin Spice latte.  I know it’s a thing that everyone makes fun of, and it’s even worse that I instagrammed it, but I love Pumpkin Spice everything and I’m not ashamed to admit it!  If it was offered throughout the year, I would buy even more of it than I do now, even though Andrew is convinced that I’m a victim of limited time marketing, but I’ll post more on that later.  We also found that Trader Joe’s, our go-to dinner source, made an ice cream version of Cookie Butter!  It’s vanilla ice cream with cookie butter inside and it’s just as delicious as it sounds.  The next photo are of some Battlestar Galactica cupcakes I baked a few weekends ago.  Andrew and I have been binge watching the series to the extreme and I felt inspired.  And when we’re not watching Starbuck, Adama, Helo, Apollo and the rest of the gang aboard Galactica, we’ve been having our regular weekend routine of Sunday pizza and video game day.  We’re currently in the middle of BioShock!  Andrew and I also stopped at my favorite cupcakery in NYC, Georgetown Cupcakes, to pick up a box to bring home and consume during tea time with my parents.  I love trying their monthly flavors and I’m really looking forward to when Gingerbread returns.  One of the most exciting things I’ve done this week is that I FINALLY tried a cronut.  And not just any cronut, a coffee creme filled cronut.  It was scrumptious!  I’ve never been a huge fan of donuts, however, I am a big advocator of croissants.  I also had a macaron brownie which is basically a macaron half dipped in chocolate and wedged in between a rich chocolate brownie.  All of this sugary goodness was eaten at Paris Baguette with Leonard and Andrew, where we also debated the number of times Gallifrey was shown on Doctor Who, discusses Peter Capaldi’s attack eyebrows, and complained relentlessly about how Clara needs to go.  Another new thing I tried is the Lazy Sunday ice cream from Ben & Jerry’s.  There are cupcakes bits inside it and I developed very strong feelings about it within the first few bites.  Lastly, a Smashburger was recently opened in NYC and since I used to love going there during lunch at my old job with my friends, I suggested that Andrew and I head there for dinner.  My favorite item on their menu is the Nutter Butter shake.  I also got an Avocado Ranch Black Bean Burger (vegetarian), and veggie fries which I like to think are healthier than regular french fries, but probably not.

Since I started working at my new job, I am no longer allowed to dress casually.  This has meant that I’ve been purchasing and wearing an influx of geeky jewelry so I can still feel like myself from 9-5.  Some of my new favorites are this Groot necklace by Red Dingo Designs on Etsy and this Hobbit Hole necklace that was fashioned after Bag End.  I wore my Hobbit necklace most of last week because I am so excited for my future Lord of the Rings plans.  My wonderful boyfriend Andrew got tickets for us to see the full LOTR trilogy screened with a live orchestra at Lincoln Center next April.  The event takes place over three separate nights and I’m going to be decked out in all the Tolkien things every single performance.  Now the only question is how I’m going to be able to wait until next April!

Luckily I still have the weekend to exercise the fun part of my wardrobe!  I decided to wear my LSP skater dress by Black Milk on Saturday for my Grandma’s 75th surprise party.  I accessorized with my glittery LSP necklace, House of Harlow fringe earrings, a ton of bracelets, my Batman ring, and my favorite pair of Jeffrey Campbell wedge boots.  Oh my glob did I feel great!  I was almost as tall as Andrew!  Then this morning I was feeling very magical girl and I decided to wear my Pinkie Moon t-shirt from WeLoveFine.  It’s a mash up of Sailor Moon and My Little Pony which seemed appropriate since Andrew and I were going to a movie theater in Williamsburg to watch cartoons.  I accessorized with my Artemis ring and my Moon Stick necklace, both of which were purchased on Etsy.  You also get a sneak peek of my bookshelf in this photo!  I’m going to be doing a more in depth post about my new room once I feel like I have it decorated to my hearts desire.

So, as I mentioned above, there’s a wonderful indie cinema in Brooklyn called NiteHawk Cinema.  They hold a monthly event called Spoons, Toons, and Booze and it’s one of the most fun events I’ve ever been too.  I’m definitely going to go back next month, and I’m crossing my fingers that it’ll be Halloween themed.  There’s an all you can eat cereal bar included in your ticket price.  I munched on Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Fruity Pebbles, Golden Grahams, Fruit Loops, and a peanut butter Jif cereal from Canada while Andrew’s cereals of choice included Cocoa Puffs and Oops All Berries.  There’s also a separate menu you can order from if you want other brunch foods, and there’s a menu of cocktails as well.  I had a black tea and lemon iced drink that was infused with vodka.  They also offer cereal shots, in which you mix a shot of Baileys or Kahlua with milk and Cinnamon Toast Crunch.  And the best part of the whole ordeal is that all of this food is served while you watch Saturday morning cartoons on a big screen.  There’s always a theme (this month’s was Rock and Roll), and the audience votes on which cartoons they watch.  In my session we viewed Garfield, Hey Arnold!, Rocko’s Modern Life, and Animaniacs. Afterwards, we walked along the Williamsburg Waterfront and admired the view of what we could see of the New York City skyline in the fog.  Then on our way back to my apartment we came across this beautiful graffiti!

And the last paragraph in this incredibly long post is dedicated to my favorite things I wrote this past week for On Wednesdays We Wear Pink.  We’ve been updating our site with 6-9 articles per day and I’m so proud of how much content we’ve been putting out but I’ve narrowed it down to my favorite posts.

Princess Bubblegum & LSP

This past weekend after our Thanksgiving feast, Melissa and I woke up early on Friday morning and put on my new dresses from the Black Milk Adventure Time collection.  Both of us are similar to the character we dressed up as so our friends who are also Adventure Time enthusiasts, (especially Chris, the amazing designer of this very site!) were super excited to see our resulting photos.  Here are our favorites from our mini shoot!

The Fashion Of FANGASM: Episode Two

This week on the second episode of Fangasm, the gang and I made some videos to promote Stan Lee’s Comikaze for our lovely boss Regina.  After days of planning and filming our videos, we entered the Comikaze boardroom to submit our finished product. My personal favorite video was our reenactment of the chest burster scene in Alien, where we pasted Stan Lee’s head on an alien body and had him pop out of Sal’s chest and talk about the convention.  Our tagline was “Stan Lee’s Comikaze, where no one can hear you scream…”  Then we headed out to a club for some unconventional fun and Regina’s best friend and supermodel Adrianne Curry came to our house to be a guest on our podcast.

And now for the fun part, the fashion part!  Here are some of my favorite outfits from the episode and where you can find them!

First up, I wore my ‘I Am R2D2’ tunic tank from We Love Fine.  You can buy one online here!

Then when it came time to plan out my questions for Adrianne Curry, I opted to wear my ‘Ring of Fire Border’ skirt from Etsy seller Go Follow Rabbits.

Then there’s this which is one of my favorite t-shirts I currently own.  It;s a mash up of Sailor Moon/Luna and Fiona/Cake.  It’s SO soft and the design is just perfect.  I’ve emailed the company to see if it’s still available, but in the meantime, there’s this adorable Game of Thrones/Pokemon tee that I also own and adore.

Screen Shot 2013-10-02 at 8.21.18 PMThen for the actual podcast, I wore these Star Wars montage leggings by Black Milk Clothing.  They feature my future husband, Han Solo, both droids, Leia, Emperor Palpatine, Chewy, Luke, and Yoda.  They’re part of Black Milk’s Star Wars collection that’s officially licensed from Lucasfilm.  You can pick em up here!

I’m Happy Just Because

Do you ever just wake up and find yourself in a crazy random (awesome) mood?  This happens to me A LOT.  Like a lot, a lot.  It happened today.  I meant to spend my day doing productive things like writing blog posts and tons of other adult-like real people things.  But I didn’t.  What I did do was buy a purple wig.  It’s from the same company that Melissa and I bought our New York Comic Con wigs from.  It’s purpley and magical and will match my galaxy leggings.  I love wigs.  After that I decided to run around my room in a hot pink wig that I already own and pretend to be an airplane while straightening my room.  Why?  I have no idea.  And that’s right.  I spent much of Hurricane Sandy and the snowstorm cleaning and organizing my room and it’s already a little messy again.  What a failure!  I’ve also spent much of my day scouring the internet for a pink handbag that has a giant bow on it.  Sadly after looking through 20 pages of products on ebay, I was devastated to find that most pink bow handbags are actually made for Barbie dolls.  Wtf?  Anyway, my next order of business was finding a gif maker online.  I thought it would be entertaining to make a gif set of myself from the video I used to audition for a reality show this one time.   I actually got picked to be on it but they keep having production setbacks so I’m still not sure if it will actually happen.  Either way, I’ll be happy<3  Oh wait come to think of it, I already was on one reality show.  It was on TLC and it was called Geek Love.  This one (if it gets made) will also be geek-centric, but I digress.  The next unproductive topic I tackled was to sit at my laptop and think about how unfair it is that Sailor Moon and Sabrina the Teenage Witch have talking cats and I do not.  At least I had a gingerbread latte while I contemplated what my cat and I would talk about.  Well, that’s two blog posts in one day which is probably crazy.  GTG read some Batman comics and listen to Bright Eyes until The Walking Dead starts!  What have you been doing on this unseasonably warm November Sunday? Hope you like my gif.  Byeeeeeee.

A Weekend Full of Zombies & Doctor Who

Q: What do a Doctor Who bar, Looper, a Zombie Walk, Mean Girls, and Left 4 Dead all have in common? A: They were all contributing elements to my fabulous weekend!  And what’s even better is that 1) it’s not yet over, and 2) NEW YORK COMIC CON STARTS THIS WEEK!  After a stressful day at work on Friday, I was forced to employ my Speed Racette driving techniques to ensure I made my train into Manhattan.  Seriously, I need to move there ASAP so I can avoid these types of close calls!  First on the agenda was to see the movie Looper, staring Joseph Gordon Levitt and Bruce Willis.    I had been wanting to see it since the movie trailer was released because besides the obvious reason (JGL), time travel is my absolute favorite sci-fi subject to explore in movies, novels, television, and *crosses fingers* hopefully IRL one day.  After a brief mishap with the ticket machine (aka Melissa & I’s first blonde moment of the weekend), we purchased our movie snacks and headed into the theater.  It’s no secret that I have a sweet tooth and thankfully the concession stand at the theater was able to satisfy my major Sour Patch Kids craving.  Overall I really enjoyed Looper.  I’m thinking about writing a full review of it for On Wednesdays We Wear Pink sometime this week if I can find the time between all of my NYCC planning. I was excited to see that Paul Dano had a small part in the film.  I’ve loved him since I saw him in Little Miss Sunshine, and I’ve been following his film career ever since.  Immediately following the movie, we were planning on going to the Bottleneck Gallery for their Zombie Art Gallery opening, but since we have all month to view it, we opted instead to head over to The Way Station.
It was my first time going to the famed Brooklyn Doctor Who bar and I had a blast! I will definitely be going back there the first chance I get.  Melissa and I decided to do a quick photo shoot in the bathroom with all of the fun paintings on walls.  Tom Baker’s scarf lines the wall, Matt Smith’s signature is framed above the toilet, there are Daleks, Cybermen, Weeping Angels, K9, and more, all are enclosed in a TARDIS which is definitely bigger on the inside.  The bar even has Doctor Who themed drinks (we stuck to River’s Red Setting which is a mix of Absolut Citron, Orange Juice and Grenadine), and they also have a supply of Sonic Screwdrivers.  At the bar we met a nice group of guys, one of which was body painted silver (the photo below is super blurry, but you get the idea!), and another that appeared to be cosplaying as David Tenant, although when Melissa inquired, he informed us that those were his normal clothes.  But the fun did not stop there! After The Way Station, we headed back to Melissa’s lovely apartment and then proceeded to play Left 4 Dead until 3:35 AM.  It was my first time playing Xbox, so Melissa was giving me tutorials and tips on shooter games.  We spent hours taking out zombies and I can definitely say that Xbox is at the very top of my wish list.  (The limited Star Wars edition Xbox that I mentioned in my last post =^.^=).  After we successfully slayed said virtual zombies, we knew we had a long day ahead of us on Saturday but we opted to watch Mean Girls anyway.  It was so much fun to watch it with some else who also knows all of the words!
After a night of 2 hours of sleep, I woke up Saturday morning, took a train home, and had just enough time to shower before driving back to the train station.  Normally it’s my train rides home from NYC where my comic reading is interrupted by drunken club goers, but as soon as I boarded my 11:54 AM train it was evident that Irish Day was being celebrated by the rest of the Long Islanders.  Leave it to me to be the outcast in the Imperial logo tank while everyone else was sporting kelly green and Irish accents.  Luckily I survived my commute and was going to have to re-read everything I began anyway due my lack of sleep.  So as everyone knows, my first stop in Penn Station was to acquire my obligatory Treinta Unsweetened Green Iced Tea from Starbucks, and some pumpkin bread for good measure.  The walk was in Asbury Park in NJ, so I met up with Mel and we hopped our next train to New Brunswick where we were greeted by Cassie.  Our next stop was the Halloween store where we tried on numerous costumes before finally settling on our final choices.  I ended up choosing to go as a Zombie version of Jem, the infamous animated front woman of Jem and the Holograms, while Cassie dressed as a Zombie Slytherin, and Melissa as a Zombie Chucky doll.  We headed back to Cassie’s where we bloodied ourselves up and then drove down to Asbury to join the herd of walkers and our friend Kim her fiancé Xander, and their friend Eric.
We roamed around town a bit, did some quick shopping at the booths set up by the boardwalk, and ran down the beach for a bit!  We missed the Zombie Thriller dance due to our tardiness, but hey, transforming into a zombie is no easy task.  We saw some very clever costumes while we were walking around, but my favorite was a group of people who were LARPing in the food court as the characters from the video game (Left 4 Dead) I had just played on Friday night!  We basically froze the entire time we were there which reminded me to start perusing ModCloth for new winter coats!  I was so cold the entire time we were waiting for our train back to NY that I couldn’t even tweet or text correctly.  Which made me even happier to think that in a few short weeks I’ll be in a much warmer climate when I visit Kristin in Florida.  Yesterday I spent the majority of my day curled up in my bed watching The Vampire Diaries, which is one of my new television obsessions.  I had never caught any of the episodes before but I took a twitter poll a few weeks ago and I received overwhelmingly positive responses from all who replied.  My verdict has been the same as what everyone forewarned.  The first few episodes are kind of silly and Twilight-esque, but by episode 5 they find a great action packed stride.  I’m going to start DVR’ing the current season in the hopes that I’ll catch up soon, although that may just be wishful thinking with all of the events I have lined up in October.

I’m planning on trying to start writing some more blog posts throughout the week which won’t only recap the events I’ve been attending, but will also give an inside look into what I’m currently reading, watching, listening to, and just loving in general.  I may also put together some fun cosplays to blog about, and some fun personal top 10 lists of my own.  Is there anything specific that you guys want to see?  Let me know in the comments section, on twitter, or send me a message on my tumblr!  But anyway, I must go get ready for the New York BlackMilk meet up!  First we’ll be doing a photo shoot in Central Park and then eating dinner with JL & Handsome Cam at a swanky Italian restaurant.  I can’t wait to meet the rest of the East Coast sharkies!
