Bookshelf + Life Update!

There’s no place like home<3.  Andrew and I have been exceptionally busy the past few weekends so I took full advantage of our first weekend back home in our lovely apartment.  I spent the majority of Saturday morning reorganizing my bookshelves (after watching 3 hours of BookTube in the AM) and while it’s not perfect yet, I’m quite pleased with my favorites shelf.  I decided to mix genres and keep my absolute-cannot live-without novels together (it’s the two shelves with The Raven Cycle, Fangirl (4 copies lol!), Lunar Chronicles, Anna / Lola / Isla etc).  I also shifted some things to allow for a fourth Harry Potter shelf since there are so many new Funkos coming out and I obviously preordered them all.  My favorite new addition to my shelf is that I hung up all of my Happy Hello Co. bookmarks since I rarely ever use them while reading anyway and I used washi tape that Melissa sent me for my birthday to decorate.  I also love how cute the bows are but sadly they’ve fallen about 5 times since I hung them and no matter how much tape I use to hold them up, they just seem to be too heavy so this photo will forever immortalize what could have been if my bows weren’t being so stubborn.

Also, I apologize that I’ve been a bit MIA from blogging lately.  I think I really needed a break because between work, commuting and some personal stuff I’ve been quite burnt out.   I would really appreciate if everyone could send their positive thoughts and vibes to my mom since sadly, her cancer has returned which is a huge part of why I haven’t felt like doing much lately.  She’s been battling it for 5 years and this is the second time she’s had to go for chemo but it’s affecting her much more than it ever has in the past and it’s really upsetting to me because my mom has always been the strongest person in my life and I’ve always been incredibly close with her.  I’ve talked to her on the phone every single day since I moved out a couple of years ago in addition to seeing her in person pretty often (I’m lucky that we live close to each other) but I just wish I could do something to take her pain away.  Sorry, that was more than I was planning on sharing but sometimes once you get typing the words just flow!

But anyway, having this wonderful weekend at home has helped me to evaluate some things and I realized how much I miss being creative and blogging and taking photos and the happiness that comes along with it.  I had a realllllly long bookstagram photoshoot session just before I sat down to write this post and I cannot wait to share all my photos!  So basically, I’m thrilled to be getting back into the swing of things right in time for my favorite season, CHRISTMAS.

News & Stuff #4: NYCC Edition

Last weekend I was one of the chosen ones who were able to acquire an NYCC 4-day pass so that is where I spent my days!  There was so much exciting news that came out of New York Comic Con that I wanted to make a video to share some of my favorite upcoming things.  One thing I forgot to include in my video is that VIZ Media is coming out with a Pokemon art book! I cannot wait.  Gimme all the Pokemon things.  Also is it Sun & Moon release day yet?! Anyway, I think Marvel was the clear news winner at NYCC this year but I’m also super excited about the new Shoujo manga that Kodansha got licenses for.  What are you most looking forward to?

Wish List Worthy: Sailor Moon Sweeties Usagi Tsukino Figure

I need to figure out how to use one of those middle man services to order goodies from Japan because this new Sailor Moon figure by Megahouse is something that I absolutely need to add to my collection.  It’s so pink and pretty and it completely matches my aesthetic and celebrates my love of ice cream.  I love that Usagi is wearing a retro diner waitress ensemble and she’s sitting in a little ice cream sundae bowl =^.^= So presh.  It’s available to preorder on the Japanese Bandai website and it should be released in March of 2017.

Waiting on Wednesday: Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly series hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases we’re eagerly awaiting.  This week I’m choosing Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman because I love me some Neil Gaiman!  I’ve always been interested in Norse mythology and Neil Gaiman is one of my favorite authors so the fact that he’s going to be retelling these myths in his own prose is like music to my ears.  The stunning cover was released earlier last week and I absolutely love the design.  It prominently features Thor’s hammer against a cosmic backdrop.  Serious heart eyes.

screen-shot-2016-09-18-at-6-46-23-pm

Neil Gaiman has long been inspired by ancient mythology in creating the fantastical realms of his fiction. Now he turns his attention back to the source, presenting a bravura rendition of the great northern tales. In Norse Mythology, Gaiman fashions primeval stories into a novelistic arc that begins with the genesis of the legendary nine worlds; delves into the exploits of the deities, dwarves, and giants; and culminates in Ragnarok, the twilight of the gods and the rebirth of a new time and people. Gaiman stays true to the myths while vividly reincarnating Odin, the highest of the high, wise, daring, and cunning; Thor, Odin’s son, incredibly strong yet not the wisest of gods; and Loki, the son of a giant, a trickster and unsurpassable manipulator. From Gaiman’s deft and witty prose emerge the gods with their fiercely competitive natures, their susceptibility to being duped and to dupe others, and their tendency to let passion ignite their actions, making these long-ago myths breathe pungent life again. Baltimore Comic Con: The Cosplay

Baltimore Comic Con was a blast (as always!).  If you haven’t already, you can watch my vlog of the con as well as my haul which I posted on my YouTube channel earlier in the week.  One of my favorite parts of the convention is admiring all of the wonderful cosplay that you see while walking around the exhibit hall, so today I’m sharing some of my favorites from this year’s show.  Saturday was the costume contest so I definitely saw the best cosplay that day and I was pleasantly surprised and impressed with how many adorable kids I saw in cosplay this con!  I think my favorites of the bunch are the Saga cosplayers, Cecil from Welcome to Night Vale, Hawkgirl and the Spider-Men cosplay group!  Which are your favorites?

Baltimore Comic Con: Vlog & Haul

Over Labor Day weekend, Andrew and I woke up at 3 AM to start our journey to Baltimore to attend my all time favorite convention, Baltimore Comic Con.  It’s been two years since I’ve been able to go and it was so great to be back!  The reason I love Baltimore so very much is that the main emphasis of the show is on comics and it’s evident of that focus when you look at the guest list each year.  They always manage to book the top writers and artists in the industry and it’s a pleasure to spend time on their show floor.  It’s not like SDCC or NYCC where walking from one end of the convention to the other end is an unbearable feat that requires you to set aside at least 30 minutes for.  And on the day of the costume contest, they always have some amazing cosplayers!  Admittedly, the show was a bit quieter this year after having been moved to Labor Day Weekend because Baltimore Comic Con was competing with 8 other conventions.  I still had a wonderful time and I fully expect to attend again next year when the date gets pushed back later in the month.  A major plus of the convention is that it’s right near the beautiful Barnes & Noble in the inner harbor which is totally worth a trip to.  Anyway, here’s the footage of our trip and my video of the treasures I acquired.

BookTube: August Wrap Up + September TBR

Hello bookworms! Here are two of my three monthly wrap up videos (my book haul will be coming later in the week).  I had a really great reading month in August- I read 9 books total which might not sound like  ton but almost all of the books I read were quite long.  I would be interested in going back through my spreadsheet of book stats and figuring out how many pages I read in August because I would bet that it’s my highest page count yet in 2016.  I’m so excited to get into September reading because I have such a wonderful TBR to enjoy this month! I’m going to begin reading some spooky books and have them get increasingly scarier as we lead into October.  Also Empire of Storms is finally out today and I cannot wait for more of that story!

Furthermore Book Look OOTD + GIVEAWAY!

Hi Bookworms! I have another exciting giveaway to share with you today! I partnered with Penguin Teen to give one lucky reader a copy of Furthermore by Tahereh Mafi as well as some of Tahereh’s favorite things which include Rifle Paper Co journals (MY FAVORITE) and a super cute letter opener!  Tahereh’s new book has major Alice in Wonderland vibes so I was really happy to have been chosen to work on this.  In honor of Furthermore‘s release, I put together a Book Look in which I wore the brightest colors I could find in my closet.  This is the first book look that I’ve ever filmed for my YouTube channel but you can see the rest of my Book Look photos here. Good luck and below is a synopsis of the book!!

The bestselling author of the Shatter Me series takes readers beyond the limits of their imagination in this captivating new middle grade adventure where color is currency, adventure is inevitable, and friendship is found in the most unexpected places.

There are only three things that matter to twelve-year-old Alice Alexis Queensmeadow: Mother, who wouldn’t miss her; magic and color, which seem to elude her; and Father, who always loved her. The day Father disappears from Ferenwood he takes nothing but a ruler with him. But it’s been almost three years since then, and Alice is determined to find him. She loves her father even more than she loves adventure, and she’s about to embark on one to find the other.

But bringing Father home is no small matter. In order to find him she’ll have to travel through the mythical, dangerous land of Furthermore, where down can be up, paper is alive, and left can be both right and very, very wrong. Her only companion is a boy named Oliver whose own magical ability is based in lies and deceit–and with a liar by her side in a land where nothing is as it seems, it will take all of Alice’s wits (and every limb she’s got) to find Father and return home to Ferenwood in one piece. On her quest to find Father, Alice must first find herself–and hold fast to the magic of love in the face of loss.

Autumnal Tea Time!

As you may have noticed I’ve recently been living in my own personal autumnal bubble despite it still technically being summer or whatever.  I usually tend to start doing this at the end of July every year.  I really only enjoy summer weather for a couple of weeks but when it comes down to it I just want to layer on scarves and don my favorite pair of boots while walking around NYC with a PSL in hand.  Then on those crisp Fall nights, there’s nothing better than getting cozy with a good book and a large cup of tea<3.

Yesterday, I was catching up on blog posts as you do when I saw Jen’s latest post about the Fall collection from David’s Tea (side note: Jen is a lovely geek-centric lifestyle blogger who I’ve been following for ages and I definitely recommend checking her out!  She’s actually the person who sparked my obsession with David’s Tea before we had one in NYC)!  I got so excited that I immediately placed my autumn order.  David’s Tea always sells out of season specific teas (packaged in the skinny tins, which are my favorite) so quickly so I refused to miss out on the offerings from my favorite season.  Below is a little collage of items I ordered but you can see the full line on the David’s Tea website.  I’m particularly excited to try pom cider  which is a sweet black tea made with apple and pomegranate.  The pumpkin chai tea is an obvious staple that needs no explanation and I also ordered some apple hand lotion and two new mugs to add to my ever-growing collection.  There’s a super cute bear mug that either already sold out on the US site or is only available in Canada but either way, I’m pleased with my new fox and foliage additions.

ModCloth Autumn Wish List

Lately I feel like I’ve been having a fashion identity crisis (which I recently tweeted about!).  I really want to add more basic staple pieces to my wardrobe and purge my closet of everything that isn’t autumnal or timelessly fashionable.  I want to be able to go into my closet at a moments notice, grab any dress or any skirt / shirt combo and be able to have everything match without giving it a second thought.  This means I’ve been filling my fall wardrobe with more reds, blacks, whites, blues, tans and plaids.  I’ve also continued to be really attracted to any pieces with heart prints, peter pan collars, ribbon neck ties, etc.  As for accessories, I’m loving any simple jewelry made out of silver or gold with the occasional statement ring, blanket scarves, oxfords and chunky heels.  My favorite store has always been ModCloth and I’m addicted to browsing their new releases each day at noon so that’s where I’ve been indulging in my evolved fashion choices.  What Fall trends are you looking most forward to exploring?  Have you also been feeling any wardrobe burnout? (If you want to view the full set & see where you can buy any of these items, click here)
