Waiting on Wednesday: Talking as Fast as I Can: From Gilmore Girls to Gilmore Girls and Everything in Between by Lauren Graham
Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly series hosted by Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases we’re eagerly awaiting. This week I’m choosing Talking as Fast as I Can: From Gilmore Girls to Gilmore Girls and Everything in Between by Lauren Graham. The Gilmore Girls excitement is real in my household. I recently joined the Gilmore Girls fandom after my husband insisted that I would love it. We binged watched the series (a re-watch for him) and I could not get enough. One of my favorite aspects of Gilmore Girls is the atmosphere and the way the seasons are portrayed so I couldn’t be more excited that the upcoming Netflix episodes cover a year in Stars Hollow. But anyway, I’m supposed to be talking about books here so when I heard that Lauren Graham, who plays Lorelai Gilmore, is coming out with a non-fiction book of essays that has Gilmore Girls in the title not once, but twice, I insta-preordered it. I can’t wait for this and the new episodes and the Funkos and just all the Gilmore Girls things.
In her first work of nonfiction, the beloved star of Gilmore Girls and Parenthood recounts her experiences on Gilmore Girls—the first and second time—and shares stories about life, love, and working in Hollywood. This collection of essays is written in the intimate, hilarious, and down-to earth voice that made her novel, Someday Someday Maybe, a New York Times bestseller.
“This book contains some stories from my life: the awkward growing up years, the confusing dating years, the fulfilling working years, and what it was like to be asked to play one of my favorite characters again. You probably think I’m talking about my incredible achievement as Dolly in Hello, Dolly! as a Langley High School junior, a performance my dad called “you’re so much taller than the other kids.” But no! I’m talking about Lorelai Gilmore, who, back in 2008, I wasn’t sure I’d ever see again. Also included: tales of living on a houseboat, meeting guys at awards shows, and that time I was asked to be a butt model. A hint: all three made me seasick.”—Lauren Graham (via Goodreads)
Lately I feel like I’ve been having a fashion identity crisis (which I recently tweeted about!). I really want to add more basic staple pieces to my wardrobe and purge my closet of everything that isn’t autumnal or timelessly fashionable. I want to be able to go into my closet at a moments notice, grab any dress or any skirt / shirt combo and be able to have everything match without giving it a second thought. This means I’ve been filling my fall wardrobe with more reds, blacks, whites, blues, tans and plaids. I’ve also continued to be really attracted to any pieces with heart prints, peter pan collars, ribbon neck ties, etc. As for accessories, I’m loving any simple jewelry made out of silver or gold with the occasional statement ring, blanket scarves, oxfords and chunky heels. My favorite store has always been ModCloth and I’m addicted to browsing their new releases each day at noon so that’s where I’ve been indulging in my evolved fashion choices. What Fall trends are you looking most forward to exploring? Have you also been feeling any wardrobe burnout? (If you want to view the full set & see where you can buy any of these items, click here)
I usually write a wish list post around SDCC outlining all of the exclusives I would be willing to spend time waiting in line for and I’m still planning to do the same this year but the first exclusive I saw was just too good to wait on! Monogram is coming out a Hedwig mug *initiate party horns* and it would be the perfect addition to my Harry Potter bookshelves. Then I can pretend nothing happened to her and instead, enjoy her company while I drink tea and re-read my favorite books. The mug is ceramic but it doesn’t say how many oz it holds so I’m crossing my fingers for somewhere in the 16 oz – 20 oz range. The mug also comes with a cute gold Hogwarts crest pin that can be affixed to the house robes of your choice. It’s only $20 and it’s limited to 500 pieces so good luck to everyone who wants one!
Yet another Funko announcement at Toy Fair that had me jumping up and down is their new line of vinyl collectibles named Rock Candy. My favorite thing about the Rock Candy line is that it spotlights female superheroes. Right now the collection only includes the women of DC Comic but depending on the success of the line, I’m sure they would try to extend their license to Marvel too. The figures are already up for preorder on Entertainment Earth and at $10.99 per figure, buying the whole line is completely affordable! The two that I’m definitely preordering are Modern Batgirl and Classic Supergirl. Which are your favorites?
Another big reveal that occurred this past weekend at Toy Fair involved two additional DC Collectibles statues to be added to the Bombshells line. I’ve been collecting these since the beginning and since then I’ve been hoping the Teen Titans ladies would be added to the lineup. Now that a prototype for Raven has been revealed, there’s also hope that a Starfire Bombshell may grace comic book store shelves in the near future. *fingers crossed* Raven is a sultry pinup style who looks like she’ll tell you your fortune. I love the blue fire detail and the way her signature cape has been reimagined. The other statue announced is Bumblebee! I love her cheerleading uniform and I think it’s a really cute direction for her statue to go in. She’s mid-jump and he skirt drapes really nicely. I also love her pom-poms and pigtails. Every time I write about Bombshells I seem to mention the next ones I’d like to see and so far they’ve come true so this time I’m going to wish for Huntress (her concept art is to die for!) and Katana!
When I was a little middle schooler, Kate Spade and Tiffany & Co. were my intro into the world of fashion and brands. Since I’ve gotten older and wiser I’ve stopped caring about wearing designer clothes and having designer accessories but one thing that’s stayed consistent is my love of Kate Spade. I lost touch with the brand for a bit in high school but it was reinvigorated with new designs during my college years and I found myself lusting after her products once again. I love that Kate Spade often offers my favorite color (light pink) and her products are timeless and classy with a modern twist. There is currently a whole lot of stuff from her recent collections that I would love to add to my own closet so my most recent Polyvore set is a wish list of those items. You can view it in full on Polyvore to see the detailed product pages for each item.
I can honestly say that I never thought I would live in a world where I would find the Spider-Man purse of my dreams and then not be able to afford it. Not to mention, it’s a Spider-Man purse being released by high fashion designer VALENTINO. Ladies and gentlemen, that is not a typo. Neiman Marcus describes this exclusive design as an abstract Spider-Man motif. This leather purse is crafted in Italy and officially licensed by Marvel Comics. If you happen to have an extra $4,595.00 laying around you can pre-order this beautiful accessory here (and I will be forever jealous of you). I feel like this purse pairs perfectly with one of my favorite limited series of Spider-Man comics entitled Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane which is written by Sean McKeever and illustrated by Takeshi Miyazawa. You may be thinking, really (since I am very vocally Team Gwen)? But this series is very Gwen Stacy heavy and the artwork is delightful so yes, it will forever be a favorite of mine!
For this week’s 5 Fandom Friday topic I decided to make a video Christmas Wish List of all the books I would love to find beneath my tree on Christmas morning! I might have cheated a bit and listed 10 books instead of 5 but it was hard enough to narrow it down to 10 that I couldn’t possibly cut my list even shorter. Plus, of the books I mentioned there is something for just about everyone so you can also use it as a gift guide. I left links to all of the books I mentioned in the description box on YouTube. What are you hoping to get for Christmas this year?
There’s nothing I love more than Christmas and now that the season has officially begun with it being Fall and all I’ve started looking at decorations and listening to Christmas music and all that fun traditional stuff that everyone gives me a hard time for starting early each year. During my browsing, I came across these amazing Sailor Moon petit chara Christmas figures by Megahouse. Each Sailor Scout has a santa hat that matches her outfit but best of all, Sailor Venus comes with a snowman version of Artemis! I mean, it doesn’t get any cuter than that. I also love that they’re sold as a set and it’s not any of this blind box business. Sadly it seems that the preorders have already sold out on every single website (they’re scheduled to be released in November) but I’m still hoping to find them on eBay at some point. They’re just so adorable and festive and I want them so much!
Bandai is currently taking preorders for a new S.H. Figuarts of Saotome from Ranma 1/2 and I have to have it. Ranma 1/2 is a classic manga and anime series which has recently been reprinted in bind up editions and re-released on blu-ray by Rumiko Takahashi and it’s a romantic martial arts comedy. The figure is expected to ship in January and it comes with three different faces (smiling, serious and BLAH!) and a whole bunch of accessories including a kettle and a sword. Preorders are being taken at AmiAmi.
