Last weekend I was one of the chosen ones who were able to acquire an NYCC 4-day pass so that is where I spent my days! There was so much exciting news that came out of New York Comic Con that I wanted to make a video to share some of my favorite upcoming things. One thing I forgot to include in my video is that VIZ Media is coming out with a Pokemon art book! I cannot wait. Gimme all the Pokemon things. Also is it Sun & Moon release day yet?! Anyway, I think Marvel was the clear news winner at NYCC this year but I’m also super excited about the new Shoujo manga that Kodansha got licenses for. What are you most looking forward to?
I need to figure out how to use one of those middle man services to order goodies from Japan because this new Sailor Moon figure by Megahouse is something that I absolutely need to add to my collection. It’s so pink and pretty and it completely matches my aesthetic and celebrates my love of ice cream. I love that Usagi is wearing a retro diner waitress ensemble and she’s sitting in a little ice cream sundae bowl =^.^= So presh. It’s available to preorder on the Japanese Bandai website and it should be released in March of 2017.
Potter Month is a month long celebration of Harry Potter hosted by myself and The Nerdy Girlie! If you partake in Potter Month, you can POST YOUR LINK HERE and see what other Potter fans are up to!
Yesterday night / morning I was one of the many people not at SDCC scrambling to secure the Funko exclusives being sold at retailers so people unable to make SDCC also had the opportunity to feed their collectibles addiction. The number one collectible I needed for my collection, more than anything else is the Newt Scamander Funko pop which I talked about in a YouTube video recently. He’s such a cutie and he’s wearing a little Hufflepuff scarf! For those that don’t know, Newt is the main character in the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. I seemed to be one of the only people able to place an order at B&N yesterday morning (the website was down for the majority of the day) but I got an email shortly after I placed the order that my Newt would be delayed. Which made me incredibly nervous. So I basically ran to B&N yesterday morning and I picked up two more Newts. Albeit, I got an email later in the day that Newt shipped so that’s great news! I’m glad that I was able to help friends with my two extras who were unable to get him. The new figure inspired me to rearrange my bookshelves a bit since there was literally zero space on my two shelves dedicated to Harry Potter and I still had another set of books and some potions to add to my display. So last night I got to work and I’m so pleased with the result! Although, I STILL have no space for the Hogwarts Funko train >.< Also! Sorry there are no outfit photos this week. My computer was being slow last night and I didn’t have the time to stay up and edit since I waited until 1 AM the night before to get the Dorbz Rides Vanellope Funko when Hot Topic put their exclusives up for sale and I near fell asleep at work the next day since my normal bedtime is 10PM lol!
Today I’m sharing a general news video about things I’m excited for and I’m also teaming up with Disney books to give away a copy of Serafina and the Black Cloak and Serafina and the Twisted Staff to one lucky reader! Some of the things I touch upon are the Mistborn board game Kickstarter, Neil Gaiman’s new book, the upcoming Beauty and the Beast film, Pokemon GO and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them!
In the past couple of weeks while I was away for my honeymoon, I came across so many new collectibles and toys that I immediately added to my wish list! Some of them are SDCC exclusives (Katana, Vanellope & Green Goblin), another is going to be super hard to acquire because it’s only being released in Japan (Kiki) and others have a long wait until their release (Wonder Girl & Catwoman) but nevertheless, I will continue swooning over photos of them until I can make them mine! You can view the full set on Polyvore and find out where everything below is from. What’s on your current wish list?
Yet another Funko announcement at Toy Fair that had me jumping up and down is their new line of vinyl collectibles named Rock Candy. My favorite thing about the Rock Candy line is that it spotlights female superheroes. Right now the collection only includes the women of DC Comic but depending on the success of the line, I’m sure they would try to extend their license to Marvel too. The figures are already up for preorder on Entertainment Earth and at $10.99 per figure, buying the whole line is completely affordable! The two that I’m definitely preordering are Modern Batgirl and Classic Supergirl. Which are your favorites?
I’ve always been a collector of the Kotobukiya Bishoujo statues but I always stuck with DC styles and hadn’t ventured into Marvel (with the exception of Scarlet Witch) but all of that is about to change. My favorite non-hero comic book character, Gwen Stacy, was reimagined last year and given an alter-ego of her own. Spider-Gwen was born out of the Spider-Verse storyline and my heart still melts every time I see her swinging through the pages of her very own ongoing title. Now Kotobukiya is immortalizing her in statue form as part of their Bishoujo line. Spider-Gwen is almost 9 inches tall and she comes with two head scultps so you can display her with or without her cowl. Spider-Gwen will be released in October of 2016 and she can be preordered on Entertainment Earth for $74.99.
Another big reveal that occurred this past weekend at Toy Fair involved two additional DC Collectibles statues to be added to the Bombshells line. I’ve been collecting these since the beginning and since then I’ve been hoping the Teen Titans ladies would be added to the lineup. Now that a prototype for Raven has been revealed, there’s also hope that a Starfire Bombshell may grace comic book store shelves in the near future. *fingers crossed* Raven is a sultry pinup style who looks like she’ll tell you your fortune. I love the blue fire detail and the way her signature cape has been reimagined. The other statue announced is Bumblebee! I love her cheerleading uniform and I think it’s a really cute direction for her statue to go in. She’s mid-jump and he skirt drapes really nicely. I also love her pom-poms and pigtails. Every time I write about Bombshells I seem to mention the next ones I’d like to see and so far they’ve come true so this time I’m going to wish for Huntress (her concept art is to die for!) and Katana!
The past week has been overflowing with Harry Potter news and this Ravenclaw couldn’t feel more lucky to be alive right now! I’m going to list my favorite news first because everyone has heard it by now and I’m already planning which bookstore I want to go to for the midnight release so I can feel like I’m in high school again. From books to toys there’s just so much report so I’ll get to it:
This is the most exciting news since it’s a new story set in the Harry Potter world! Ever since Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was announced I had been praying that the show would find it’s way to NYC because really, how could I possibly survive in life without knowing everything about my favorite world? The answer is, I probably couldn’t. Luckily, for everyone who isn’t able to make it to London, Scholastic (or Little Brown if you’re in the UK) will be releasing a book of the full script! Apparently there’s some confusion online but Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is NOT a prequel. It takes place 19 years AFTER the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I love that it’s being released on July 31st for Harry’s birthday<3 Because it’s being printed so soon, the first version of this book is the Rehearsed Edition script and once it’s finalized, a new version of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will be released, entitled the Definitive Collector’s Edition (in typical Potter fashion since publisher’s know us Potterheads will spend all of our money on new editions).
Speaking of special editions… the 20 year anniversary of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is coming up in 2017 and to celebrate, Bloomsbury will be releasing Special Hogwarts House editions of the first book. My thoughts: WHERE CAN I PREORDER MY PRECIOUS RAVENCLAW THEMED TOME?!
As I’m sure you’re aware, the movie adaptation of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (which JK Rowling is penning the script for) is being released later this year. Bloomsbury has announced that they’ll be releasing an updated hardback version of the textbook on February 9th, 2017 (woo less than year!) which will include new content from JK Rowling in the form of an introduction. They’ve also just given a teaser for the cover (above) and announced that Jonny Duddle will be the cover illustrator. You may recognize Duddle’s work because he also illustrated all of the new Potter covers in 2014.
Yes, there’s more! You know that beautiful Harry Potter Illustrated edition of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone? Well, we’re about to get illustrated versions of the Hogwarts Library books as well (which include Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them – Autumn 2017, The Tales of the Beedle Bard – 2018 and Quidditch Through the Ages – 2019). I’m going to need an entire bookshelf dedicated solely to HP. This is not a complaint.
This weekend Toy Fair is taking place at the Javits Center in NYC and Funko had a ton of Potter reveals to share! I’m thrilled to say that my dream of a Hogwarts Express Funko has been realized. Unfortunately, there’s no official release date just yet but at least these are in our near future! I love that the Mystery Minis line includes animals! I never thought I would say this but Voldemort is pretty cute in this line! And can we just about how Ron is holding a Chocolate Frog and Hermione is clutching a book? I’m in love! Images of the toys below were released exclusively on Mugglenet.
And right before Toy Fair, Funko announced the exclusive Harry Potter Funkos that’ll be available during the second wave. My favorites are the Hot Topic exclusives which include Draco in his Quidditch robes and Cedric Diggory in his Triwizard outfit *sobs.* The other two Pops, Harry Potter in the Sorting Hat and Neville Longbottom will be exclusive to Barnes and Noble.
