Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey Mr. Men Books

Note: I was provided a copy of  Dr. First, Dr. Fourth, Dr. Eleventh and Dr. Twelfth by Penguin Teen as a #PRHPartner to read and spotlight these books.

Penguin was kind enough to send me the first four books in the Doctor Who + Mr. Men mash up books and after flipping through and reading them, I knew I *had* to share them here.  The series is written and illustrated by Roger Hargreaves’ son Adam and they’re retailing for only $6.  These beautifully illustrated books are the perfect opportunity to convert any child in your life into the Whovian you know is laying dormant inside them, just waiting to be awoken (and they’re also a pretty adorable treat for adults, chock full of easter eggs from the television series).  The first releases follow the First, Fourth, Eleventh and Twelfth Doctors (Eleven being my favorite of course!).

There are a ton of familiar faces as you read through each Doctor’s story.  I was most excited to see River Song but you’ll also see familiar baddies such as the Cybermen, Daleks, Silurians and Weeping Angels.  And each Doctor is illustrated with their signature accessories (and they totally nailed Twelve’s angry eyebrows).

December Disney Dare – #DisneyDare

Two blog posts in one week, crazy right?! My friend Chris (who happens to be the amazing designer behind my blog!) and I decided to team up to host a Disney movie challenge for December. We’re both avid Disney fans and we’ve both been to Disney World in the past couple of months and we wanted to make an effort to watch as many Disney films as possible in the next month.  Then we decided it would be fun to open up our challenge to anyone who wants to participate along with us!  I’m so excited to immerse myself in some of my favorite classics (particularly Beauty and the Beast’s Enchanted Christmas because December) in the upcoming weeks and I hope you’ll join us as well.  You can read all the rules below and see Chris’s magical graphic!

The Dare: To watch as many Disney / Pixar animated films as possible!  Maybe you’ve missed out on a recent film or two? Well, this is the perfect opportunity to play some catch up!  Maybe you’ve always wanted to watch the films in chronological order? (if so, here’s a handy list of all of Disney’s animated theatrical films in order of release date)  Or perhaps you want to spend your holiday season reliving your favorite magical Disney moments?  If any (or all) of these challenges peak your interest, then we dare you!

The Details: This is a low-key challenge for all the Disney lovers out there so you can feel free to set your own goal or aim for one of our tiers:

News & Stuff #4: NYCC Edition

Last weekend I was one of the chosen ones who were able to acquire an NYCC 4-day pass so that is where I spent my days!  There was so much exciting news that came out of New York Comic Con that I wanted to make a video to share some of my favorite upcoming things.  One thing I forgot to include in my video is that VIZ Media is coming out with a Pokemon art book! I cannot wait.  Gimme all the Pokemon things.  Also is it Sun & Moon release day yet?! Anyway, I think Marvel was the clear news winner at NYCC this year but I’m also super excited about the new Shoujo manga that Kodansha got licenses for.  What are you most looking forward to?

Pokemon, PotterCon & Book Shopping Vlog ft. Jordandene, Geekscape & More!

I’ve been having a really fun time getting into vlogging! It’s really weird and awkward at first if you’re filming in public so I’m still adjusting to that but I love having the footage to look back on afterward so I’ve been making a concerted effort to vlog whenever I’m on the go.  Two weekends ago, I had a really exciting string of days so I combined footage from Jonathan of Geekscape’s Pokemon Go meetup, PotterCon at Irving Plaza in NYC and National Book Lover’s Day at Barnes and Noble with Monica.  At PotterCon I finally got to meet Jordandene who is a super lovely person and she filmed a little clip with me for my video!  There’s also a ton of Harry Potter cosplay (the winner of the contest’s cosplay is one of my favorite I’ve ever seen) and a mini book haul.

BookTube: Pokemon Go Book Tag

Judging by my Pokemon addiction, it was only a matter of time until I found a book tag to go along with it!  I have to say that my interest has been tapering off a bit lately because I’ve caught *most* of what’s out there and I get bored seeing the same things over and over again.  I think my interest will be renewed when the game is updated with trading or the addition of my Sylveon<3 But as you’ll see in my video, I’m pretty excited about my Gengar!  Thanks again to Aentee of Read at Midnight for creating such a wonderful tag and amazing graphics to go along with it!

TeamSilverSpace Channel Announcement! (GameTube?)

Anyone who knows Andrew and I knows that books are my thing and video games are his thing.  He’s been wanting to start a video game channel on YouTube for quite some time now but everything got a bit sidetracked since we were crazy busy planning our wedding.  I had gotten Andrew the game capture equipment he needed for Christmas last year so that just shows you how long this has been in the works!  I’m so excited to be part of Andrew’s channel and it’s really fun to be able to collaborate with him on something that I know he loves.

I definitely consider myself more of a casual gamer. I love the old games from my childhood (which is why we’re starting with Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Quest as our first Let’s Play series), Pokemon (in all of its iterations) and anything I can play on my 3DS.  I’m definitely going to be going out of my comfort zone as we continue on with new games because my gaming skills seem to have peaked during the N64 days.  I’m horrible at first person shooters and other games that require me to control where I’m looking and walking simultaneously.  I feel like people are going to watch our channel and think I’m great at gaming and then the second we debut a newer game, everyone will see just how awful I really am lol!  Either way, it’s fun to spend some quality time with Andrew and record our conversations.  I’ve always wanted to make more time to play video games so I’m excited that we now have a reason to do so!

I’m glad we waited to start the channel too because Andrew worked really hard on all of the channel art and it completely paid off. I’m heed over heels in love with his design! He made me into a magical girl Pokemon trainer<3  And he animated the opening sequence.  Andrew’s brother and my brother-in-law Joe also created the music for us! (Fun fact: Joe did the credits music in my YouTube videos too!)

Anyway, here are the first few episodes of our Let’s Plays! I hope you enjoy and if there are any games you want us to play, let us know in the comments and we’ll keep a running list for future episodes!

BookTube: Harry Potter & the Cursed Child Review

I filmed my first review video! With the exception of Cassie, Melissa and I’s monthly book club, Spines With Wines, I usually save my wrap ups for the end of the month.  Apparently, if it’s Harry Potter, I have no trouble talking for 20 minutes straight so that was fun for Andrew to edit lol! Filming this video made me unexpectedly emotional and spoiler warning, I cried two times because Harry<3.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Vlog

I can’t believe I have a copy of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child in my possession.  To celebrate the book’s release and Harry’s birthday, me, Andrew, Gil and Kelly baked some Harry Potter treats, watched some films and favorite YouTube videos and attended the midnight party at our local Barnes and Noble!

Potter Month: My Harry Potter World Haul

Potter Month

Potter Month is a month long celebration of Harry Potter hosted by myself and The Nerdy Girlie! If you partake in Potter Month, you can POST YOUR LINK HERE and see what other Potter fans are up to!

Today I’m finally posting my Wizarding World of Harry Potter (and Marvel) haul from when Andrew and I went to Universal during our honeymoon.  I had been saving the video for Potter Month (despite filming as soon as we got home) and then other things just took priority because I was so behind due to wedding things!  I swear our honeymoon vlog and EternalCon vlogs are still coming!  Our day at Harry Potter World was my favorite of the whole honeymoon since my office had gifted us with a VIP tour.  We got to go to the front of every line and take photos wherever we wanted and we were even told how things are made and we had the opportunity to see their production stages which was really cool!  We spent the bulk of the day in Diagon Alley (the Gringotts ride is my absolute favorite now!) and by Hogwarts of course<3

Summer of Sailor Scouts: Volume #2 Manga Review & Impressions

Summer of Sailor Scouts

Earlier this year, Alexa of Alexa Loves Books, Cee of The Novel Hermit, Cristina of Girl in the Pages, Sierra of SDavReads & I all discovered that we shared a mutual love and appreciation for Sailor Moon! After exchanging plenty of flailing tweets and constantly bringing up our love for this magical girl story, we felt it was only right to celebrate it – and that’s what happening this July. Every week will feature a brand new blog post per day from each of us, and we’re so excited to be sharing the Sailor Moon love with all our readers!

This week we’re each discussing a different volume of the manga!  Since my post is on Tuesday, I’ll be talking about the second volume (Alexa discussed volume 1 yesterday, Cee will talk about volume 3 tomorrow, Cristina will continue with volume 4 on Thursday and Sierra will conclude with volume 5 on Friday). Don’t forget to check out my Sailor Moon Art Collectionmy wish listSailor Moon FavoritesSailor Moon Book Tag, enter our giveaway!

  1.  I love that all of the Sailor Scouts are already assembled by the end of the second volume.  It takes a really long time to get to that point in the anime and a huge reason why I’m such a Sailor Moon addict is enjoying the antics of the ultimate girl gang.  I love seeing the girls work together to fight evil and bring justice to the monster who are plaguing them.  The girls are very close and they’re always looking out for one another despite some sisterly bickering between battles.
  2. When Sailor Venus shows up, the girls believe that she is Princess Serenity and Sailor Venus doesn’t correct them right away.  In the anime, this moment was a cliffhanger at the end of one episode but it was immediately rectified within the first minute of the following episode.  I think Sailor Venus is even more mature in the manga than the anime and she has so much experience fighting evil that she’s an important asset to the team.
  3. In volume 2, Sailor Moon already realizes that she is Princess Serenity.  She begins having memories of her past and she also learns that Tuxedo Mask is Mamoru.  She also remembers that he is someone she loved in her past.  Again, this takes forever in the anime!
  4. The girls are able to travel to the Moon and talk with the former Queen of the Moon Kingdom which allows them to learn more about themselves and more about the Dark Kingdom and how they’ve come to Earth.
  5. The end of this volume is more somber than the first volume.  It definitely leaves you needing to read volume 3 ASAP to continue the story of the scouts.
  6. While I do like the anime more than the manga, I have to say how much I love the artwork.  It’s so magical and I could stare at it all day! I like that Kodansha includes color pages at the beginning of each volume (even though the interior artwork is my favorite).  I think they do a good job of trying to convey the transformation sequences and weapon scenes but nothing will ever compare the animation.  It helps to already have those scenes embedded in my mind while reading!
