‘Tis the Season: Christmas Aesthetic

As you probably remember, Christmas is my favorite time of the year.  I basically spend every day after my birthday counting down for Halloween to be over because once November 1st hits, people start accepting my Christmas spirit (except for a couple of Thanksgiving enthusiasts who I will fight *I’m looking at you Kelly*).  This year is extra special because it’s Andrew and I’s first Christmas together in our own apartment so we get to start building our very own decor.  We’re planning on going to Target next weekend, picking up our choices and D E C O R A T I N G !  Obviously this meant that I spent about 4 hours looking at ever single Christmas item in every single Christmas category on the Target website.  Since I wanted so much (shocking, I know), I created a Christmas registry so I could easily reference it while we’re in the store and I was able to narrow down the things I think we need a bit.  I put together a Polyvore set of some of my favorite items because nothing makes me happier than publishing Christmas themed blog posts or YouTube videos.  Last year I did 25 days of Christmas blogging which I don’t *think* I’ll be able to manage this year but I am sure as heck going to try.  Enjoy and be merry!

Wedding Stuff: Some of Our Out of this World Decor

I haven’t posted anything wedding related in such a long time since I was too caught up in the actual planning progress but now that Andrew and I’s big day has come and gone, I’m excited to be sharing more about it with everyone!  We haven’t gotten any of our photos back from the photographer just yet but before we packed up our decorations I snapped a few shots of our decor.  Our wedding was space themed (focusing mostly on Star Wars and Doctor Who, although we did play some Firefly during cocktail hour!).  I had such a fun time hunting all of our decorations down because theme parties are kind of my thing and we did do some other things during the reception but I’ll be getting to that in future posts :-) If you want to see even more sneak peeks, you can check out our instagram hashtag which is #WedLongAndProsper16.

This is one of my favorite things that I found on Etsy! I posted a photo of it the morning of our wedding since Andrew wasn’t allowed to see me until I arrived at the church.  It has the date we tied the knot and of course, the infamous Han / Leia exchange<3

This is a copy of our church program.  I love the design we found and how it says “it was written in the stars.”

I also just adored this ring box. It’s so perfect<3 And I love that it’s something that we’ll have forever to keep our rings in when we’re not wearing them at night.

This is my garter. I didn’t actually wear it, it was just used for photos before the ceremony.  Andrew and I decided early on that we didn’t want to do a bouquet / garter toss because most of the times we’ve seen them, they just end up being awkward.  I chose this particular garter because  it’s called Rose and the Doctor<3

Arguably, one of the most time consuming of our decorations were these Clone Trooper placecards.  I ordered about 200 LEGO Clone Troopers from eBay and each one came completely disassembled.  We spent hours building them and then cutting our placecards and hot gluing them to each trooper. I love that we had a little army set up for everyone to see when they were figuring out where to sit!  Unfortunately, I had forgotten to take a photo of them before we packed up but Betty was nice enough to let me use hers!

This is the craft that took me the second longest.  Originally we were just planning on using the TARDIS as our card box but we quickly realized that it was too small! I made an emergency trip to Michael’s and found a Star Wars themed box that I painted 3 coats of white and decorated with fabric roses and rhinestones for our TARDIS to sit atop.

We brought our own cake servers to the venue to use because this Darth Vader & Stormtrooper set were too cute to pass up.

This is our cake topper! This is probably my favorite of all of our decorations because it’s just so cute! R2 looks so dapper and I got to be a BB-8 bride.  They sat atop a galaxy cake which I’m hoping to have great photos of in the weeks to come!

For the girls bouquets, I wanted to use the closest arrangement I could find to something galaxy themed.  I went with blue amy’s, diamond dusted roses, lillies and hydrangeas.  We also chose the same flowers for our centerpieces which sat inside Death Star cookie jars.  I never thought I would order 25 Death Star cookie jars in my life and I made a point to chat with ThinkGeek while placing the order so they weren’t like what the heck is this? and didn’t fulfill it! The centerpiece photo is by Cassie!

I also ordered my bouquet off of etsy because I really wanted a brooch bouquet.  I think they’re so pretty and I love that I’ll be able to keep this one looking just as it did on my wedding for the rest of my life<3

For our guestbook we went with River Song’s diary and a Sonic Screwdriver pen.  We actually haven’t had the time to read through it yet but we’re planning on doing so soon!

This is just the cutest card ever that my coworkers gave us when they surprised me with our VIP guided tour of Harry Potter World.

And lastly, here’s a photo I really love of my Mom and I outside the church<3

‘Tis the Season: Bath & Body Works Holiday Candle Haul

This year I treated myself to an array of candles from Bath and Body Works when they were holding an irresistible sale on 3-wick styles.  I had a whole plan to film an over the top candle haul, possibly dressed as Professor Trelawney, so I could start telling people that I’ve dabbled in candle vlogging (because Scream Queens made that too funny).  Alas, the holidays are almost upon us and the one thing that’s always lacking during this season is time so a blog post is what I’m posting instead.  My family and I have been using the Fresh Balsam candle every chance we get because it smells exactly like a Christmas tree and it makes it so enjoyable to smell while sitting in front of our faux tree.  I also picked up Spiced Apple Toddy which smells like apple cider with a little kick to it, Vanilla Snowflake whose aroma smells almost exactly like a vanilla cupcake, and Twisted Peppermint because I adore mint everything.  What are some of your favorite candles?  I’ve recently become more interested in candles now that I’m thinking a lot about my future home.  I’ve never been able to enjoy the ambiance they create in my own room because I have so many books that burning a candle would be a major fire hazard!

Location Love: The Pandorica

This past weekend Andrew and I traveled to Marist college for his 5 year reunion (it’s basically Hogwarts – see here) and since we were up that way we thought it would be the perfect opportunity to try the Doctor Who themed restaurant, The Pandorica!  I’ve been wanting to go since it opened but it’s pretty far out of the way so we hadn’t made it there previously.  It’s such a cute little spot and the food is fantastic.  I think it if were located in NYC it would be too crowded to truly enjoy the experience.

As soon as we walked in we were greeted by a friendly waitress and I immediately noticed a man sitting near us outfitted in suspenders and a bow tie (yeah Whovians!).  The Pandorica definitely has a quiet atmosphere which is due to episodes of Doctor Who playing and most attendees having their eyes glued to the tv screen (think sports bar but actually fun!).  We were lucky enough to catch the latter half of the David Tennat werewolf episode and the beginning of the David Tennat – Sarah Jane – K-9 episode.  Also I was that disruptive girl who totally didn’t mind being the uncool tourist running around the restaurant to photograph EVERY DETAIL.

So speaking of those details, my favorite touch is the Police Box mason jar full on sunflowers on several tables though I’m also partial to the Dinosaur head with a TARDIS in it’s mouth.  One of the coolest things is that right near the restrooms there is a giant crack in the wall that changes colors.  The bathroom door is fashioned after a TARDIS using a wall decal and an actual light bulb atop the door.  The inside of the bathroom is decorated to look like the interior of a TARDIS (also wall decals) and the back of the bathroom door is full of tally marks.  Hmm I wonder what those could mean? :-)  There’s also a hanging member of the Silence in wall area opposite the bathroom and an Ood that sits near the front desk.  The menus look like River Song’s journal and there’s a giant Van Gogh TARDIS mural across the back wall.  There’s also a wall of artwork that’s for sale which is not allowed to be photographed (I was nicely informed about that when I tried to snap some pics).  Even the cloth pattern on the booths is very Gallifreyan.  So A+ in the decoration department.

For dinner I ordered the Gallifreyed potato pancakes because I wasn’t super hungry and I really enjoyed them! It was the perfect amount of food and I was still able to enjoy a brownie covered in ice cream and caramel sauce once I finished.  Andrew ordered something very meaty that involved bacon so I cannot comment on his food.  If I ever have the chance to go back I would love to try the faux fish fingers and custard from the dessert menu.  It’s actually french toast sticks!

Overall, The Pandorica is a really enjoyable place for any Whovian.  The decor is timey wimey, the staff is really friendly and the food is delish.  It’s a bit far for us to make a trip out there where The Pandorica is the sole purpose but if we ever find ourselves in the area again you can bet we’ll be going back!

Swoonworthy Home Decor + Baked By The Other Melissa

I am in love with Melissa’s apartment.  When I see how crafty she was and what she was able to make work on a reasonable budget, it makes me want to get my own place immediately.  On New Years Eve, Mel invited Andrew and I over and I got to take photos of some of my favorite areas of her decor since it was less crowded than her birthday party.  We were also in for a huge treat because we got to be taste testers in her new obsession with French pastries.  You can read about some of the fancy foods she’s prepared in her Baked by the Other Melissa column.  Everything was so delicious but my favorite were the baked rose petals.  She also has a darling little bunny named Teela who hopped around us when she wasn’t being shy.

Some other New Years festivities included 1) champagne (obviously!) 2) Melissa forcing us into watching Magic Mike, not once, but twice, because she’s in love with Alcide from True Blood, 3) making Andrew watch RoboCop in full for the his first time, and 4) after the ball dropped, slaying some zombies in Left 4 Dead.
