November Small Goals

I’ve seen a bunch of people post small monthly goals (and I recently realized that Writes Like a Girl started this monthly post & has a monthly link up for it on her blog!) and I really like the idea of re-centering and re-evaluating everything more frequently.  It’s awesome to make yearly goals but it’s also easy to lose focus or forget about them entirely over the 365 day period we’re aiming to accomplish them in.  Having small monthly goals to help get to those bigger picture yearly ones is something I’m eager to try out!

AUG – OCT CHECK-IN

Once again I’ve fallen behind on small goals posts which is no surprise based on how busy I’ve been the past couple of months! I moderated a panel at New York Comic Con, interviewed the authors of The Adventurer’s Guild, attended a bunch of author signings (I’m still most excited about meeting Patrick Rothfuss!), saw The Legend of Zelda symphony and the biggest thing that happened is that my husband Andrew needed surgery on his lower back.  He’s doing very well and is almost completely healed now! I’m so glad he’s not in constant pain every day any longer. It’s such a relief to see him smiling and dancing and joking and back to his old self.

1) Spend minimally – Haha nope. I blame fall clothes and new book releases. This is my FAVORITE time of year to shop so I don’t know why I thought this was an attainable goal at all.

2) Continue eating healthy / resist all the snacks!  – 50/50! I’ve still been doing some meal prep and eating healthy for breakfast and dinner, but I have been snacking a bit more. But Halloween candy!

3) Read one more Man Booker nominee or classic book  – Pass! I didn’t read another Man Booker nominee (although the one that I did read in July ended up being the winner!), but I did read two classic books (Anne of Green Gables and I Capture the Castle), and a Hugo award winner (The Fifth Season).

4) Consistently Blog & BookTube  – 50/50. 100% on YouTube and minus the Turn of the Season Event that Alexa and I did on our blogs and a couple of blog tour posts, I didn’t blog nearly as much as I had planned to.

NOVEMBER GOALS

1) Autumn Cleaning – I know Spring cleaning is a thing but for me, it’s always been Autumn cleaning. I love when the air is crisp enough that I won’t be sweating while I try to clean and organize.  Last year I did my HUGE Marie Kondo clean out during the week leading up to Thanksgiving and this year I’m hoping to get it done a bit earlier in the month.  We’re already planning on tackling our hall and kitchen closets this Saturday!  The other portion of this will be actually getting the bags and boxes and of books out the door and donated.

2) Write  – You can see my post from yesterday about my intentions toward writing this month.  It’s NaNoWriMo and I’ve decided to make my own challenge, NaBloWriMo trading out the novel portion for blogging since it’s unrealistic that I’ll be able to make the 50,000 word goal this year.

3) Read  – It’s no secret that I read… a lot.  Much more than the average person in fact.  That’s why this goal is not specific to the amount of time or number of books I want to read but rather, several specific titles that I promised I would taking off my TBR in 2017 and now that I’m down to the wire, I’ve got to get reading! The top three books that I absolutely refuse to go into 2018 without completing are Leviathan Wakes by James S.A. Corey, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen and Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel.

4) Enjoy the Outdoors  – Last weekend, Andrew and I went to the Bayard Cutting Arboretum and walked several trails for a few hours on Saturday morning. It was absolutely wonderful! Not only did we get exercise, but to enjoy the gorgeous views that I often forget are hiding around our island, just waiting to be discovered.  I want to go back and do a couple of photoshoots because the location is just perfect! There are a couple of other places I’ve found that I want to check out as well.

  2. I basically do cleaning every single season. I am always looking to redo my wardrobe in some way. Recently, I have been cleaning my wardrobe and cutting down on my geeky t-shirts and trying to “adult” my wardrobe. Good luck with your cleaning!

love the outfit! One of my goals for the month is to be more outdoorsy too. Fall is my favorite season and it’s cool enough so that hikes and long walks are enjoyable :)
