Buddha Bodai

This past weekend Andrew and I went out for one of the most satisfying meals I’ve consumed in recent times.  In high school. my friends and I would wake up really early on weekends and go to this little place on Long Island called Fortune Wheel and we’d eat the best Dim Sum ever for breakfast.  Then, about 6 years ago I became a vegetarian and my dim sum addiction was forced to cease.  It was a sad day indeed.  Dim sum is actually what I miss most about being a vegetarian.  Pork buns and shumai were two of my favorite foods.  Luckily, about two years ago, Dan Slott introduced me to a lovely little restaurant in Chinatown called Buddha Bodai which is a vegetarian dim sum restaurant.  I had only been there with him the one time, but I finally ventured back and it was glorious.

We started with green tea and spring rolls, and then moved on to all the dumplings and buns!  We ordered pork buns (my FAVORITE), Green Tea Buns, Watercress Dumplings, Vegetable Dumplings, Veggetable Gyozas and Fried Sticky Rice.  We definitely over-ordered and we were almost too full to stand up and leave!

If you’ve never been to Chinatown you may want to know that on your walk from the subway to the restaurant there will be a ton of people trying to sell you fake designer handbags, watches, and telling you they’ll give you gold for cash.  A new addition to the sales pushing on Canal were selfie sticks.  And consider yourself forewarned, if you’re interested in the aforesaid fake designer handbag and agree to peruse their selection, you will be escorted into a sketchy room in a nearby building since your transaction is technically illegal.

I’m glad you were able to find something that worked with your “diet” restrictions!
